About this property

As the name suggest this formally Old Coach House that has been transformed into a contemporary country cottage just a stone’s throw from the heart of Ambleside. This wonderful property is a perfect retreat for multiple couples, or a family looking to recharge and relax in the Lake District.

Enter through the spacious hall on the ground floor and into the large well-equipped kitchen with range cooker and dining area, a real social space to cook and relax. Downstairs you will also find three comfortable bedrooms, one king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room alongside the double and single bedroom plus the family bathroom with separate WC. Head upstairs to find the spacious sitting room with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and picture windows framing the stunning views of the garden, a peaceful setting in which to relax. The final king-size bedroom is also located on the first floor with full en-suite bathroom. Outdoors the lawned garden has won local awards, it is a beautiful place to sit on sunny days and simply be.

Ambleside is only a short stroll away and comes alive with excellent restaurants and bars in the evening. For the walkers amongst us, there are plenty of walks direct from the doorstep and you can take a Lake Cruise from Waterhead Pier to explore nearby Windermere and Bowness.

You’ll be instantly charmed by this Lakeland cottage overlooking River Rothay and leave totally refreshed by a stay in the Heart of the Lakes.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The private car parking was a huge plus too, can be tricky to find in the lakes. Kitchen was great, beds were all comfy as was the living room (lots of space in living room too). It looked as though it hadn't been used for a week or two, and had therefore not been cleaned immediately before our stay (lots of obvious cobwebs in more than one room). Couple maintenance issues that need addressing, the upstairs sink was leaking, the downstairs en suite shower drain was partially blocked, and the kitchen lights kept flickering if we turned them up (worked fine when on the lowest setting so not a huge issue). Also I would say one drawback about the layout of the house is the downstairs toilet is very cramped. Still an enjoyable stay overall, have been before and probably would stay again if those maintenance issues were sorted.

Just a slight gripe, the seating in the 2 seater sofa had gone home and some oven gloves would have been nice. Apart from that really lovely and we'll be back. Gary and Marion Mabbott

We did however find the accommodation slightly dirty in places on our arrival, but this was quickly rectified ourselves. Overall, Ideal location, easy parking and all mod cons
