Harriet began writing her autobiography here and took delight in using the telescope to watch out for wrecks marooned at sea. A fabulous indoor market takes place on the old metro station dubbed the ’Covent garden of the North’ an intriguing place loved by locals and visitors to the area. Only a short walk from the house is the ancient abbey, beach and seaside. There are ample bars and restaurants around to never have to leave Tynemouth but whilst in the area a trip into Northumberland to discover the glorious heritage coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which should not be missed with miles of golden sands and peppered with castles and friendly villages.
