About this property

Boasting a superb cliff top position, this stone cottage stands in the most idyllic and desirable location 2.5 miles from the small fishing village of Craster.

A simply stunning Grade II listed holiday cottage in the most superb location! The Bathing House is perched on the rocks above a little sandy cove with 180 degree sea views. Imagine falling asleep to the sounds of the waves, waking up and drawing back the curtains and gazing out over the ocean.

The property offers charming country style accommodation for 6 people with three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, lovely open plan living area with window seat, inglenook fireplace with multifuel burning stove. The kitchen area is also very well equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Outside, the property has a lovely lawned terraced garden overlooking the beach, an amazing, unique property.

This romantic location was a favourite spot of the 2nd Earl Grey who commissioned the build of the house for his family to use when they went bathing… he had 16 children! Today The Bathing House is owned by Howick Trustees Ltd, who also own Howick Hall.

The majestic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle can be seen in the north, whilst to the south there are distant views of Coquet Island. The coastline in this region is characterised by a mixture of rocky inlets and lovely sandy beaches with attractive walks along the cliff tops. A 14 mile coastal footpath between Beadnell and Alnmouth passes nearby providing the opportunity of walking through some of the most outstanding coastal scenery in the country, this part of the Heritage Coast is designated an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" as well as being a "Site of Special Scientific Interest". Keen cyclists should note that the Coast and Castles cycle route passes nearby.

The Bathing House is perfect for a family celebration or a few nights away with friends - simply unpack, relax and leave your mobile switched off!

For a coastal retreat there can hardly be a better location. Well supplied, warm and cosy. Great views, the ever-present sea and lovely walks provided everything we wanted.

The Bathing House is an exceptional holiday house and we feel privileged to have spent a week there. The situation is stunning. Hearing the roar of the sea as we lay in bed, or sitting on the window seat upstairs watching the crashing waves, whilst warm and cosy was wonderful. We also dipped in the bathing pool below the house, which is a great way to start the day. Plenty of walks and cycle rides from the house or a short drive away, there's an OS map in the house for route planning. Before we arrived I had an email from the housekeeper, asking whether there was anything we needed on our arrival, this was a really lovely touch, and it was great to know that there was a contact should we have any problems, which we didn't. We arrived in the dark, but the house was warm and welcoming, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Beds and sofas were really comfy, there was an unlimited supply of logs and kindling. Hope that we can visit again sometime.
