About this property

Caton Lane House is a detached cottage resting in the enchanting village of Cark in Cartmel, Cumbria. This beautifully presented cottage is set over three floors, providing the perfect stay for families, friends or couples looking to explore this part of Cumbria. Step through the door into Caton Lane House and be immediately transported into a world of period features, slate beams, and flagged floors. The high spec, contemporary, fitted kitchen with range cooker, double oven, 5-ring hob, fridge, freezer, and wine cooler is ideal for preparing a sumptuous feast to be enjoyed in the dining room. After dinner, retire to the lounge with two leather sofas to relax and wind down in the comfort of your own home, or light the woodburning stove in the inviting snug. Continue to the second-floor, home to a spacious twin bedroom with character low beams and an en-suite cloakroom. The village has a shop and a pub, both just a short walk from this Cark in Cartmel cottage, and the splendid Holker Hall and Gardens are also within walking distance. For a truly unique experience, why not visit the Cartmel Racecourse, and feel the thrill of a day at the track. Of course, don’t forget to explore the nearby ancient ruins, castles, and stately homes, whilst the Lake District provides access to several bustling towns such as Kendal, Bowness and Ambleside, all filled with character and charm. Escape to Caton Lane House for a splendid holiday to Cumbria.

Cark in Cartmel is a small Lakeland village just two miles from Cartmel, one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District. Cark is well served by the Furness line railway, and features pretty streamside strolls, lovely walks to the local coastline overlooking Morecambe Bay, two fine traditional old pubs and a scattering of small shops. It is a very short stroll from here to Holker Hall, the stately home of Lord Cavendish, whose house, gardens and deer park are open to the public and also now home to a licensed brasserie The Ilex. Take advantage of excellent walking opportunities amidst beautiful unspoilt countryside or visit The National Hunt Racecourse, the Campbell Legend Bluebird Exhibition and the Lakeland Motor Museum, all close by. Nearby Cartmel offers quaint cobbled streets littered with antique shops, charming gift shops, welcoming traditional pubs serving real ales, and the nationally acclaimed Michelin Star awarded L'Enclume restaurant. The quiet seaside retreat of Grange-over-Sands, with its Edwardian buildings, mountain backdrop, fabulous sea views, promenade and two golf courses is four miles away. Windermere, with its panoramic views over England's longest lake, is within a fifteen minute drive. A superb holiday destination at any time of year.

    Will definitely visit again

All the beds were extremely comfortable and it was lovely arriving to the heating already on. The only couple of issues we had were parking and the loft bedroom was very very cold and the guests staying in this room ended up having to squeeze into other rooms, another heater in the loft room would have been better but overall we would definitely stop at Caton Lane again but with less guests so the loft room was not needed. We had trips into Grange over sands and Cartmel which are both well worth a visit. Thank you for a lovely stay.

It was perfect for all our family and dogs. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed including Prosecco and Christmas napkins! The Christmas tree and other decorations were a lovely gesture and it definitely had the feel of a family home rather than rental property. It was great to have the pub next door and we found a lovely 30-40 minute walk across a track to Cartmel. An outside tap would have been handy to wash the dogs off but we just let them dry in the car and maybe an additional heater for the attic room. The only downside was the British weather and transport issues cut our holiday short by a couple of days as we had such a good time we would have liked to stay longer. All in all a great property in a great location.
