About this property

A wonderful character cottage situated two minutes walk from the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale, which is an attractive historic village in Cumbria close to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. This cottage is ideal for friends and family wishing to enjoy time together to explore this captivating area. On entering this well-presented cottage, the spacious downstairs has a beautiful period fireplace and woodburner, a lovely comfortable seating area and a generous dining area with a well-equipped kitchen. Upstairs are three stylish bedrooms with a splash of colour, fitting in well with the character of the cottage. From the back step, there is a superb spacious elevated courtyard with simply delightful views over the village roof tops to the church and fells beyond. The bustling village of Kirkby Lonsdale is full of quality independent shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs serving local ales and mouth-watering food leaving you spoilt for choice. There is a traditional sweet shop in the village, where you can spark your childhood memories, as well as some interesting antique shops. This village has the wonderful historic Devil’s Bridge used for bathing in the summer as well as being a favourite for photos. This then leads to a delightful riverside walk taking you to the church dating back to Norman times with the famous view said by John Ruskin to be “One of the loveliest views in England”. Just seven miles away is the village of Ingleton with the circular Ingleton Waterfalls Trail or the White Scar Caves to explore. A short distance away is Farleton Knott with some of the area’s best-preserved limestone pavements in Britain. Further afield the mesmerizing Lake District beckons and a short drive away you can also dip down to the coast for some beautiful walks. The villages of Silverdale and Arnside are there to visit as well as Leighton Moss RSPB. This is an inspired holiday choice to explore this picturesque area with some fantastic views all year round.

Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location, whatever time of year.

The lounge area was very comfortable with comfy seating and log burner if needed (the central heating was sufficient though) TV with plenty of channels and netflix. Plenty of books, maps of the area and games for your use. The dining table was big and at he back of the lounge area. The kitchen was the most well equipped I have ever seen. Plenty of place settings, cooking utensils and cleaning products. The extention at the back has a beautiful sunroom, with a piano. There is a utility room with toilet, washing machine and vacuum cleaner. The sunroof looks out with bi-fold doors onto the flagged patio that has potted shrubs and plenty of tables and seating to sit outside, with views of the beautiful hills to the right. The bedrooms have very comfortable beds, two double and a twin room, there are two hairdryers (iron and ironing board in the closet). The bathroom is modern and very spacious with a walk-in shower, big fluffy white towels. The whole cottage is spotlessly clean and is beautifully furnished with lots of lovely pictures and ornaments. It was a pleasure to stay there. There Is just a short walk to the main street with plenty of bars, shops and restaurants/cafes. The supermarket Booths is also a 5 minute walk away. The road running past the property is quite busy and you need to be aware of that as you leave the property, as the door is onto the road, but it is not an issue as long as you are aware. The patio has a few steps you need to be aware of and the staircase to the bedrooms is narrow and quite steep (as are most of the cottages in the area) so just be a little careful. There is also a resident parking permit, for roadside parking around the cottage, we stayed on a very busy easter weekend and were always able to find a parking space). Would we visit the cottage again.... without a doubt. The owners were also very helpful and at the end of the phone if needed for advice and assistance too.

It's so handy for walking into town as well as accessing the rest of the South Lakes. Love the new extension! Really opens up the space at the back of the house.

The cottage itself was really cosy and comfortable, with everything provided that you could possibly need. The welcome pack was much appreciated as was the dog bed, bowls, blankets and towels which were a nice touch (along with some dog treats too!). The owner Heather was lovely and offered to help with any questions we had, or supply info about the area. We attended the Christmas Carol Service at the local church and were made to feel very welcome. Overall, a fabulous short break in a lovely village, made even better by the great accommodation.
