About this property

Resting on the outskirts of Sedbergh, a market town in Cumbria is Monkey Puzzle Cottage, a pretty dwelling, welcoming five guests. Enjoying a countryside setting, nestled within the Yorkshire Dales National Park & with easy access to the Lake District National Park. Offering both contemporary and charming features throughout, this reverse-level property is the ideal base for a family or group of friends, looking for tranquillity.

Enter the stone-fronted dwelling and climb the stairs up to the social hub of Monkey Puzzle Cottage, where you can prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen, dine around the dining table, whilst enveloped by beamed ceilings and a delightful piano. If you'd prefer to dine or unwind outside, choose from the enclosed front garden, dotted with blooms, planters and a striking Monkey Puzzle Tree, and the rear courtyard, designed for alfresco affairs. Return indoors to locate the ground-floor bathroom, where you can refresh ahead of an evening out, or for simply completing your nightly routine. You'll also find the three inviting bedrooms on the ground-floor, including a king-size (zip/link, king size bed or 2 small singles ), a king-size, and a single, offering flexibility for your group. Once you're ready to explore your surroundings, head into the town to stock up on the essentials and for a bite to eat before joining the footpath alongside the cottage to walk or cycle in the Howgill Fells, shortly reaching Howgill ice cream farm for a delicious treat.

Farfield Mill is a recommended stop off, an old wool mill with both traditional and contemporary arts and crafts, preserving the textile heritage of the local area. Travelling towards Kendal, enjoy a tour of the local museum or castle, ahead of discovering Miller Bridge, whilst Lake Windermere and its plethora of attractions are a little further afield. Taking advantage of your position within the National Park, fill your itinerary with nature-filled hot spots, including Ingleborough Cave and White Scar Cave, both offering guided underground tours, or perhaps follow your own path towards Whernside and its summit, overlooking the county. The Lake District National Park is only a short drive away, worth packing your walking boots for.

Both Dent and Kirkby Lonsdale are charming areas to pass through, steep in history and culture, dotted with museums, galleries, and picturesque walking trails.

Enjoy all of this, and more, at Monkey Puzzle Cottage.

The historic market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber) is located in northern Dentdale at the base of the majestic and untamed Howgill Fells. Only 12 miles separate Sedbergh from the Lake District National Park, which is located immediately inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town has an old world feel to it with its small shops, historic bars, famous school from 1525, and church from the 12th century. Dentdale, which extends 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the junction of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey, is the crown jewel of the Yorkshire Dales and is accessible from Sedbergh. It features rolling hills and dry-stone walls. Dent, with its historic cobblestone streets and Norman origins at the heart of the valley, is served by the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. The neighbourhood is a haven for walkers, ramblers, runners, and bikers because there are three golf courses nearby as well as tennis, riding, and fishing. This, along with the serenity of the nearby valleys, the two National Parks, and the fact that it is England's book town, make it a perfect year-round vacation spot.

We were delighted with the lovely Christmas tree and other decoratios - add a suitable festive touch to the cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped - we didn't want to leave. The weather hasn't been great, but we managed walks by the river/golf coure and exploring the grounds of Sedbergh school. Can recommend Smootts Duo for friendly service and very reasonably priced, tasty food. Also had a good meal at the Dalesman and drinks at the Black Bull. Thank you for an excellent stay!

We enjoyed a trip to Kendal-great charity shops & amazing wholesome veggie food at Baba Ganouch. Also managed to get up the fells for a big stomp over to Cautley Spout. The path is so steep! Hope to come back to stay again sometime. Johni and Miles (Devon).

Perfect location for western Yorkshire Dale's & Lake District, property is finished to a very high standard. Huge fridge freezer & fantastic bike shed! Very nice touches. Excellent literature in cottage for local walks & activities. Building work next door was no problem at all, in fact I got the opportunity to look round the development and drool over the excellent workmanship!! Will definitely book this cottage again. 10 out of 10
