Fern Cottage in Baslow is a well-loved holiday rental, praised for its charming character, modern amenities, and beautiful garden. Guests appreciate its prime location for nature activities and proximity to local shops and eateries. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is of a cosy, welcoming, and well-equipped property ideal for both relaxing and exploring the Peak District.
The property is generally described as clean, with specific mentions of it being 'spotlessly clean on arrival'. However, a few comments about cobwebs and woodlice suggest room for improvement in certain areas.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to local attractions, shops, and nature trails, making it an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. The serene setting and proximity to amenities contribute to its high rating.
Guests find the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, with a particularly comfortable new sofa mentioned. Some concerns about bed sizes and a less comfortable second bedroom are noted, slightly affecting the score.
The cottage is well-equipped with modern appliances and a well-stocked kitchen. However, issues with the TV signal, hot water, and sofa condition have been raised, indicating some areas need attention.
While guests express gratitude and appreciation for their stays, there are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. The bath in the main bathroom was to die for. The only tiny gripe we had was the kitchen knives weren't particularly good (chipped blades) but we managed and if you're eating out more than in it won't be a problem at all. The outside space is amazing. We were lucky enough to get warm weather so we could sit outside and having the driveway for off road parking is a definite advantage. The cottage is ideally situated for walkers with numerous walks straight out of the front door. The village shop is less than 5 minutes walk away and very well stocked as well as being the post office. We've stayed in a number of different properties in and around Baslow and this was the best in terms of location and comfort. We love this area of the Peak District and will be booking to come back sooner rather than later if I get my way.

Slight criticism the television struggled to pick up channels with very poor signal strength. The cleanliness was good ⦠however Royal clean had missed several areas with cobwebs on beams and standing floor lamp ⦠Overall a nice relaxing stay and would consider staying againâ¦..
