About this property

Saltash 1.6 miles. Resting in the small village of Burraton Coombe, near the town of Saltash, is this stunning grade two listed upside down barn conversion with magnificent views. The owners converted Torlinhay Barn in 1992 whilst living in a mobile home for two years with their two young children. The barn has been a labour of love and every attempt has been made to keep the original character with the use of granite, slate and wood. Set over two floors and sleeping up to eight guests, Torlinhay Barn is a traditional and charming setting for your next getaway to Cornwall, situated within the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within easy reach of Plymouth. Walking into the hallway, go past the lounge and down the stairs to the kitchen and soon decide who the designated chef will be, there is also a breakfast bar to enjoy a casual cup of coffee in the morning. Moving through the property there is a utility room with handy washing machine and tumble dryer, and a ground-floor shower room. The downstairs also hosts two king-size bedrooms; one with en-suite shower room and one with an en-suite toilet, and a dining room with a beamed roof and a grand fire place with woodburning stove. Climb the staircase to the first floor to be charmed by the large reverse-level sitting room where a second woodburning stove takes centre stage, around a TV and plenty of sofas to snuggle up in, as well as a double bedroom and a king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room, and a main bathroom with a freestanding bath to indulge in after a long day. In 1992 the garden was a 2 acre sloping grass field grazed by diary cattle, but since then over 200 trees have been planted including many fruit trees. There are formal gardens which blend in with the natural grass woodland, where few chemicals are used and every attempt is made to encourage the wildlife in the garden. Five wildlife ponds have been built and two have benches where one can sit quietly and watch nature pass by. As you walk round the garden there are lots of hidden areas and interesting places to walk and sit down, with a gas BBQ and gas heater outside to enjoy the quiet evening countryside atmosphere. If you venture into the town of Saltash, popularly known as "the Gateway to Cornwall", you will find plenty of old Cornish charm with narrow streets rising steeply from the banks of the river, plenty of shops, interesting inns and beautiful walks along the Tamar. Saltash is an excellent location for visiting the local attractions and also the many tourist honey spots of Devon and Cornwall, including both Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor, coastal towns and villages of Seaton, Cawsand, Looe, Polperro and Bude. Other places to visit include the word famous Eden project, Heligan Gardens, Burrator Reservoir, Siblyback Lake, Calstock, Cothele, Lanhydrock, Mt Edgecumbe and Sparkell Wildlife Park to name but a few.

A short drive away is Tamar Vally AONB, Dartmoor National Park and Plymouth, a bustling city with plenty to occupy visitors including the historic Barbican quayside area with cafes, shops and bistros, the National Marine Aquarium, the Plymouth Gin distillery, plenty of theatres and the opportunity for watersport adventures. For a fun-filled trip to Cornwall, choose Torlinhay Barn.

Saltash is dominated by the magnificent Tamar Bridge, Brunel's masterpiece of engineering taking people from Devon to Cornwall across the Tamar River, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Saltash retains much of its old Cornish charm with narrow streets rising steeply from the banks of the river, and plenty of shops and interesting inns.
