About this property

Built in 1665 and Grade II listed, Lower Farm is a charming example of a Ham stone farmhouse with wonderful character features. This impressive house is an ideal holiday home with plenty of space for memorable family gatherings.

Lower Farm is situated in the small village of Over Compton and is ideally situated for exploring the counties of Dorset and Somerset. This generous property, built in 1665 and Grade II listed, has retained its charm and character with extensive flagstone floors and two inglenook fireplaces with wood burning stoves, and the styling is delightfully fresh and contemporary.

On the ground floor is an attractive sitting room, a separate family games room/snug with a wood burning stove, and a large dining room with feature inglenook fireplace and second wood burning stove. The well-equipped farmhouse kitchen has a breakfast island and Aga and leads out to a large boot room. A useful cloakroom with laundry area is also located on the ground floor. On the first floor there are five comfortable bedrooms, two with stylish en-suite shower rooms; and an attractive family bathroom. Outside, the house enjoys a front and rear, part-walled garden, with a sheltered dining terrace and a large lawn which is ideal for family games. Children can also delight in the wooden climbing frame and custom built playhouse.

Perfectly situated for trips to nearby Sherborne with its shops, restaurants, two castles and Abbey; or Yeovil with its theatre and nearby National Trust properties, Lower Farm is the ideal property for gathering friends and family together for fun, adventures or celebrations.

Thank you for your lovely house and the opportunity to spend time with family and friends over New Year. We have had a splendid few days of R+R, walks and dinners. We found the goats and other animals at Laurel fram in Over Compton; what a find! They are milked to make Capricorn cheese, sold by Waitrose etc. There were one week old kids in the barns!

  • The K Family

This house has been a great success for our family Christmas with our sons and wives and grandchildren. We have loved the space and the many original features. The countryside around has been great for many different walks with no need to use the car. We had a family outing to the panto in Yeovil which was excellent - thoroughly enjoyed by us all. We also all really appreciated the wonderful Christmas decorations - thank you!
