About this property

The period cottage is set next to the picture-postcard stream, in the medieval village of Lavenham. Sleeping four guests, the property makes a great base for couples and small families seeking to explore Suffolk. Spend time pottering amongst the historic buildings in the village and exploring the local footpaths, or head into the bustling town of Bury St Edmunds, 12.5 miles away.

The 17th-century former grain barn is full of rustic charm, with an exposed timber frame, original brick fireplace, and mullion windows. The downstairs in this unique home is deceptively spacious, providing ample room for everyone to spread out and relax. There is a large lounge with comfortable seating, a cosy wood burner-effect gas fire, and a TV, and you’ll also find a snug for curling up with a book after a long walk. Spend time in the quirky kitchen/diner rustling up tasty meals, to enjoy at the breakfast table or in the formal dining room. The two compact bedrooms are upstairs, along with a handy office area on the landing. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite shower room, and there’s also a family bathroom. Please note, due to the property’s age, there is a restricted head height of on the first floor of 6ft. There is no outside space, but with multiple footpaths branching away from the village, you’ll have plenty of choice when it comes to your morning walk. This semi-detached property is a timber frame construction and does not have modern sound insulation.

A stroll around Lavenham is like stepping back in time, with its preserved medieval buildings and quaint, narrow streets. The village has a thriving community, and you’ll find many independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. Set in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, there are many tracks and trails to explore through the surrounding woodlands and fields. Just 12.5 miles away is Bury St Edmunds, with its fantastic restaurants, beautiful abbey gardens, and stunning cathedral.

We spent a wonderful week in No 1 Byes Barn which has been thoughtfully converted into a very comfortable and welcoming ‘home from home’ with a lovely ambience. A good, restful base for exploring beautiful Suffolk.

A very well presented property in a beautiful location. The only slight downside could be the steep steps at the front of the property which could be an issue for someone with mobility issues.
