The house whilst following modern contemporary lines also provides so many comforts that once you have arrived you will not want to leave. The spacious garden stretches down to the shore across the private road along the front of the house. This road also leads to the footpath to Castle Point which is an enjoyable walk and can be continued on round the coast to undiscovered smugglers coves at Glenstocken. A pleasant footpath runs back through West Barcloy Farm to the public road making an enjoyable afternoon's walk.

At Castle Douglas you can pick from visiting Threave Castle with a boat trip across the river to the island on which the castle sits or Threave Gardens which are maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.

All countryside pursuits including cycling, mountain biking, fishing, golf, walking and of course wildlife watching are exceedingly well catered for. In particular the numerous Forestry Commission Woodlands in the area are all open to the public providing activities suitable for all.
