Kirkcudbright is known as ‘The Artists Town and is as enticing place as you can imagine!

It is compact but with wide airy streets, the old town with its brightly painted houses clustering around the remains of the 16th century MacLellan Castle, which stands prominently overlooking the fishing boats moored at the harbour. Such a mix of attractions has a timeless appeal, that gives this small town a perpetual charm. It is a place to explore, to linger and to get to know. Standing in the harbour, reflect on the fact that Kirkcudbright can claim over 800 years as a commercial port, from warfare, piracy and smuggling to passenger services and international trade and what’s more it’s still in use today! Attractions in the town include the Kirkcudbright Galleries, and the intriguing Dark Space Planetarium; also Broughton House and gardens, Stewartry Museum, Kirkcudbright Golf Club and fishing on the River Dee. Pubs and restaurants all a short stroll away. Between the months of June and October there are activities to suit all tastes - from jazz; a country fair; arts and crafts; floodlit tattoo and fireworks; classic cars and festivals of food and light. There's plenty to experience nearby, too, including the Galloway Faerie Trail, the gorgeous RSPB Ken-Dee Marshes Reserve, and the bird watching area of the Red Kite Feeding Station. Be sure to visit Gatehouse of Fleet, a historic town offering hikes up Trusty's Hill, tours of the Mill on The Fleet, and access to the renowned National Cycle Route 7. The bustling town of Dumfries lies further afield, where even more is waiting to be experienced! Choose Auchengool House for a memorable break in Scotland.

Kirkcudbright, on the north Solway coast, is a historic and scenic town situated on the banks of the River Dee. This modest port town, which was founded as a Royal Burgh in 1455, has long relied on a thriving fishing industry and is host to a blue flag marina. A blend of Georgian and Victorian town buildings make for a really lovely town centre behind this busy port, with its broad streets and pastel-colored residences.
