The market town of Newton Stewart, famous for its salmon and trout fishing, lies in a superb location between the serene rolling countryside of the Machars to the south and the Galloway Forest Park to the north. The Whithorn Dig Visitor Centre lies on the site and displays material dug up over years of excavations.
