Galloway Forest Park (designated Britain's first Dark Skies Park) is located nearby offering unsurpassed star gazing opportunities and one of the stages of the 7Stanes mountain bike network is within a five minute drive of the cottage. Minnigaff has an excellent 18 hole golf course and other sporting facilities, including game, coarse and sea fishing, are all available nearby.

Ailsa cottage was clean, pleasantly old fashioned but adequately equipped, except perhaps for a lack of broadband. There were twin beds which could perhaps be replaced with zip and link beds to give a double alternative. The owner lived not far away and was friendly and helpful. Newton Stewart is a good base from which to explore the coast and the forests of the area, with towns like Kirkcudbright, New Galloway, Stranraer and Girvan all an interesting drive away.

Already filled in review clean, comfy although WiFi and outside seating would have been nice
