Located on the northern side of the isthmus joining the Rhins of Galloway to the mainland, Stranraer was founded in 1596 as a Burgh of Barony and elevated to Royal Burgh status in 1617. You can easily kill an hour or two browsing the shops and cafes, and the Stranraer Town Trail will fill you in on some of the city's rich history. The Southern Upland Way, a walking trail through the Galloway Hills, passes through Stranraer on its way west from Portpatrick. Castle Kennedy, Glenwhan, and Logan all have beautiful gardens that are open to the public not far away. Although there are a number of beaches in the Stranraer area, the best sand beaches are located at Sandhead and New England Bay. The southernmost point of Scotland, the Mull of Galloway, is easily accessible via a short drive south. A nature reserve protected by the rspb has been established to protect this spectacular and diverse area along the Galloway coast, which can be seen from the lighthouse perched on the headland.

The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. A lot of thought had been put into making it feel welcoming and homely. The cottage was much bigger than we expected and had a good stock of books and games. The beds were lovely and comfortable rooms nice and warm. The conservatory was nice and overlooked the garden, but the dog next door kept jumping over the wall. Although friendly enough he kept doing his business on the lawn. Unfortunately for us the lack of comfortable sofas spoilt our stay. There are 3 small 2 seater sofas something you would expect to see in waiting room. 1 sofa was child like size, and a rocker type chair. It’s nice to be able to sit back and relax in the evening especially when the evenings are pulling in and the weather changes. However sitting on these sofas for any length of time was something we just wasn’t able to do without being extremely uncomfortable. In fact after 3 days of our 7 day holiday we decided to check out.

A deceptively spacious house with really good-sized rooms. There were lots of seating facilities - couches, dining table, kitchen island with bar stools and private patio area in back garden. The garden is lovely - very pretty, lots of plants, shrubs and a lawn. The house was very clean and very well-equipped. The house was warm - day and night - and we didn't need to use the heating. There was nothing we lacked for our comfort. We were able to park directly outside the house. The local people were friendly, there were walks and a beach very close by. There are lots of attractions a short drive away. It's in a beautiful location within a stunning region. No complaints at all! We were sorry to have to leave. Thanks for the thoughtful welcome pack.

The home is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. The weather was good and there were some lovely walks nearby. The home is very well equipped with everything you would need. The little welcome pack was most appreciated. There is a bus stop directly outside that takes you into Stranraer. There is also a little pub/restaurant across the street that serves plain good old fashioned food, but be warned to wear elastic trousers as the portion sizes are amazing. The only negative thing I would say is that there is no shop whatsoever. Other than that we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend if you want to get away from it all.
