Piteadie Castle Cottage sleeping up to 5 guests

Explore the eight acres of beautiful grounds, or venture out and spend a day in Edinburgh. Many attractions and outdoor pursuits available close by.
Set in the peaceful grounds of Piteadie House, surrounded by farmland and with super views, this well-presented, yet cosy holiday home, with all the up-to-date appliances, is a beautiful spot for friends and family looking to relax and enjoy this splendid area. Semi-detached to outbuildings only, it is situated only a short hop from both Edinburgh and St Andrews, you can enjoy days out, or explore the owner’s eight acre ’mini estate’, complete with woodland, a ruined castle, unspoilt countryside and spectacular views looking out over to the Firth of Forth and across to Edinburgh. Enjoy a picnic in the grounds and admire the ruins of medieval Piteadie Castle, which dates back to the late 14th Century, and sits in its walled courtyard. It features in Nigel Tranter’s novel, The Lion’s Whelp, which can be read during your stay. It still boasts the original round arched gateway with a coat of arms and the date of 1686 and initials W.C, for the then owner William Calderwood, an apothecary and burgess of Edinburgh.
Indulge in some serious stargazing at night, or simply enjoy the delightful grounds which are home to an abundance of wildlife including pheasants, buzzards, owls, woodpeckers, hares, deer, foxes and a nightjar! Enjoy local country walks to the well-known Kissing Trees and Kinghorn Loch, walk the Fife Coastal Path or try the Fife cycle route, which are all close by. Further afield and within easy reach, explore Aberdour, Burnt Island and Kirkcaldy. The former are part of the ’Fife Riviera’ and Kirkcaldy has lovely parks, where there is also a friendly, weekly 5km park run, and the esplanade looking over the Firth, with a good selection of shops, a super museum and art gallery, the Adam Smith theatre and a sandy beach.
There is golf at Aberdour and Kirkcaldy, and St Andrews, the home of golf, is only 26 miles away. The charming fishing villages of East Neuk are also within easy driving distance and the local railway station has links to major cities and towns, with Edinburgh just 25 minutes. The Forth Road Bridge and Deep Sea World are 12 miles away. No matter what you choose to do during your stay, S43556 awaits your return with the bright lounge complete with a wood burner.

"The cottage and castle were quite over whelming, it had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable and clean ,and lovely comfortable pillows as I usually have to use my own.The lounge was cosy and nice like the rest of the place.Beautiful modern kitchen, with all you need in it.It was our first stay in Scotland ,and would love to stay there again ,especially as it was only a thirty minute drive to Cupar where our father is in a care home. The highlight was Henrietta the hen who came to see us before we left."

"A spacious, clean and internally modern cottage. Well positioned for Edinburgh and Dundee, and villages in between."
    Doug – 16 Sep 2018
"FABULOUS!!! Super host and super site! Amazing value and a great location to see all the amazing things from Edinburgh to St. Andrews. A castle on site? How ridiculously cool is that?!"
    Ria – 26 Aug 2018
"Spotlessly clean well presented cottage worked for Edinburgh fringe activities 2 main drawbacks.water for shower ran out before all 5 of us had showered and we felt unable to take short walks from the cottage Overall we enjoyed the stay"
    Pam – 5 Aug 2018
"The cottage was spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed our quiet and peaceful stay in a beautiful location. The minor irritations seem hardly worth mentioning but there were some, and they seemed out of keeping with the general high standards - half the mugs were badly chipped and so we did not use them, leading us to sometimes run out of clean mugs altogether; the pans with the white enamel linings were badly stained and we soaked and scrubbed them to improve slightly but we did think they ought to be replaced; we bought some things like toilet rolls and washing-up liquid rather than bother the landlord but really we usually expect to see extra supplies in the property. Overall, it was a great holiday. Thank you."
    Tanya – 24 Jul 2018
"Lovely cottage, beautiful grounds surrounding it. A lovely secluded break, with local shops so close by. The owners were very friendly. We were there the week the Highland games were on at Burnt Island and it was lovely weather to be at the beach."
    Diarmid – 18 Apr 2018
"Beautiful cottage in lovely quiet rural location. Well equipped and cosy. Close to Kirkcaldy amenities. Lovely welcome pack of milk, bread, wine etc was a pleasant surprise. We were visited by pheasants & hares and also heard a woodpecker!"
    Marion – 7 Apr 2018
"Nice country cottage, well supplied and comfortable. Good base to explore the area."
    Confirmed guest – 4 Apr 2018
"The cottage was easy to find and very convenient for the places I wanted to visit. I loved the fact that although it was well situated you felt you were quite rural with an abundance of wildlife and delightful walks from the front door. The cottage was clean, cosy and well equipped, including a charming welcome pack of "goodies".I am very grateful to the owners who went to some trouble to get the track, from the road to the cottage, cleared of snow before my arrival!I would recommend this house to couples and families and because it is all on one level, it would be suitable for people with walking difficulties too."
    Rebecca – 4 Mar 2018
"The cottage is well equipped and in a beautiful location. Seeing deer, hares and pheasants outside the living room window was a wonderful way to start the day. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, with the convenience of a supermarket and town only a few minutes drive away. There are so many beaches and coves to explore close by too, and we were able to easily drive to Edinburgh to catch up with friends. The only negative we could find was that it was tricky to find the first time in the dark, but nothing that would spoil a stay. Overall an excellent cottage in an excellent location, we would visit again and recommend to others."
    Elaine – 9 Jan 2018
"Piteadie cottage is spacious yet cosy, we spent a relaxing few days there. In the lane leading up to the cottage we encountered deer, hares , a buzzard and the resident pheasant. Nearby Kinghorn Lock has a Bird h Hide , we were lucky to see the beautiful kingfisher on both our visits."
