What a beautiful cottage in a fabulous location, just what we wanted. We had a lovely chilled week, weather great, lots of walking with the dogs, picnics, visit to the castle and just generally relaxing. Just what was needed.

Torran is an ideal get away from it all cottage, with no wifi but a good mobile phone signal. There isn't another house in site, which might not suit anyone nervous of being alone, but for us it was ideal. There was plenty of equipment, but we were only 2 people and the house was advertised foe 4 people. There was wood available in the woodshed for the log burning stove, which we needed as it was a cold few days that we were there, but the situation made up for that. Be careful driving to it as the track is rough in places. If we were to go to that part of Scotland again, we would try to book Torran.

Having just returned from a 2 week stay at Torran we feel there are a number of issues which would prevent us from returning again. If you like remote and peace and quiet you couldn't wish for a better location, we visit Scotland every year and this is by far the most remote property we have ever visited. However, access road/track is rough and if you don't plan your route you will bottom out your car very easily (we did) although we travelled in an estate, a 4x4 should have no issues. Be advised that road's in this area are very, very poor with plenty of deep potholes for several miles. Cottage is well equipped but some issues which let it down. We had a small welcome pack on kitchen table consisting of crackers and biscuits, marmalade and chutney which was very nice thank-you, however images show a bottle of champagne which we did not receive. Wood for fire is plentiful with shed full, but be advised no kindling, firelighters or coal available so plan ahead. Cottage could have done with a better clean as there were some splash marks along the front of settee and arm chair, a sock left on rug under table suggesting that rug hadn't been vacuumed, also a dead tick on rug that my son spotted whilst playing with our 2 dogs (no vacuum cleaner available just dustpan and brush). Some of the crockery and utensils were grubby and needed washing before use. Washing machine in need of an upgrade as often fails mid wash or even cranks the wash temperature up so high your sons hooded sweater shrinks... There are a vast amount of flies the moment you step outside and these will make sitting outdoors a challenge, especially as they bite. If you leave it until a little later in the evening, the flies do mainly go away but then the mosquitoes come out. We were unable to sit out any day during our 2 weeks at Torran although the views from indoors are quite spectacular anyway so not a deal breaker for us. There is also an extension currently being built which has only had foundations laid before we arrived. We felt it did compromise the garden somewhat for our dogs one of which is a lurcher who enjoyed trying to get out of property and needed watching at all times (foundations only about 9 inches tall so easy for most dogs to get over). Be vigilant because there are sheep here which are often outside of the property so dog owners need to have a check before letting dogs outside. To clarify comments from another review, there is a free standing freezer in room directly in front of front door, and a boxed DVD player available but no DVD's to use in it. We left Torran feeling a little disappointed but couldn't fault location as it is exceptional. A side note for anybody taking teenagers there is a strong 4g signal at property but no Wi-Fi.
