What our customers say about their holidays

Well what can I say!
! The pictures are beautiful but they did not prepare us for just how beautiful that view is!! We were pleasantly surprised as soon as we entered the property, first impression was that it was clean and well maintained. But there was something very special about walking down the short staircase to the lounge and seeing those huge floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views of the most beautiful countryside. We were welcomed with a lovely card, biscuits and complimentary bottle of prosecco, such a nice touch :) The entire house was so well equipped, the kitchen was huge and had everything we couldâve needed even down to water bowls for the dogs. The layout was perfect for a large family gathering as we all sat chatting around the table whilst cooking dinner. The lounge was a great size with comfortable sofas and a large tv (although we preferred to watch the view with the sheep, lambs, cows and rabbits entertaining us) Just off the lounge was a huge conservatory packed with games and entertainment for younger children right up to teenagers, complete with colourful led lights. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and welcoming with nice little touches to make the stay more comfortable. The decking balcony outside had a table, benches and chimenea but it was a bit windy to sit out. We did however enjoy the hot tub out front, behind the hedges for privacy it was lovely. It was nice to see a chatty gentleman come the morning we were leaving and completely empty the hot tub, clean and refill. Reassuring that this is also well maintained for hygiene. If I had to give any constructive criticism I would say the mattresses on the beds arenât the most comfortable, they are very very soft. Also, the conservatory door doesnât close very well and was rattling in the wind, could also be a security issue. Very minor things! We had a short walk to a lovely beach and a 10 minute drive to some more beautiful spots. Thereâs also a large retail park around a mile away. We loved our stay and would 100% boo again! Thankyou so much to Lorraine for answering my questions before arriving and Thankyou to the property owner George for the welcome text message. We didnât want to go home!

Amazing place with fantastic views.
A very well thought out property, which at first glance appears like a rabbit warren. Every space has been utilised to the best. The main rooms all had fantastic views of the sea. We found the many light switches in the main room hilarious to fathom as those that settled in earlier could hear clicking as we switched off at nighttime. We were a mix of middle aged and grandchildren celebrating two 60th birthdays. We were blessed with great weather, but there is plenty to see even off season. The children had plenty of room to explore and run about outside. We had everything available to cook family meals, were warm enough even when we had frozen nights. Nothing but the finest in the quality of beds and furnishings. The towels were huge and fluffy. Plenty of hot water for relaxing in the bath. We would certainly love to return sometime. Now the negatives. We arrived to a sink full of dirty water with two sponges floating in it. The place was surface clean only, with dirty and greasy oven pans. Mouse droppings under the big coffee table in the lounge and other bits under sofas, a hair bobble, Pringles lid etc. (I have photos). The cleaners donât appear to have the tools to do a good job. There were nothing to clean the oven with. The vacuum cleaner was blocked with hair. Upon unblocking it, the hoover collected a full container of fluff and worked perfectly. The shower room upstairs smells of dirty mop. We purchased two bottles of bathroom drain unblocker and lifted the drain bar..it needs doing again to solve a simple problem. People have commented on this before. One toaster, reported broken Sept 21 is still broken. A pane of toughened glass was shattered out on the decking (wasnât an issue but needs fixing). It was after two storms. We had to buy the basics in order to keep the place clean, washing up liquid, surface cleaner, a dish cloth, bathroom sponges, green veg recycling bags. These are usually provided on all holiday rentals. Really picky now. There is only one pillow per head, so if you sleep more raised up, you will have to bring your own. Please donât be put off. The place has the wow factor and we had a fabulous stay

The Minerva is in need of some TLC and the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, especially in our present climate.
We arrived on 25/9/20 and on the surface everything looked fine. But taking a closer look we were horrified ,all three toilets had urine stains in and on the toilet seats, the toilet in the main bathroom had some sort of black stuff at the back of the seat and all down the pan! The shower in the en-suite was mouldy and all the towel rails had certainly not been cleaned since the last holiday makers. Behind the bed in the en-suite room was disgusting it had months worth of dust and the actual bed frame was the same, my husband and I had to scrub it all first before we could sleep in it. There was also a very dirty and dust extension lead under the bed which had the lamp plugged into it. The kitchen units were all stained,so we had to clean them and the kitchen bin had debris in it from previous holiday makers. The baby highchair was dirty and full of stains. Lampshades and lights were thick with dust and to top it off the fan in the conservatory leaked when it rained so could not be used. Itâs a shame because it could be a lovely property, the views and the location are absolutely stunning. Someone is letting someone down very badly and us as customers are most definitely being put in a vulnerable position especially with covid-19 out there.

The house was in a fabulous location with fabulous views of the sea and open fields full of sheep and cows.
The best bit about this house is the use of the hot tub which was amazing. There were an abundance of childrenâs toys and books, sky tv package with all channels, an Xbox and WiFi enabling us to log into Netflix. The description of the house does need updating on Sykes Cottages though, there is no utility room but we suspect that this is because the house now has a huge open plan kitchen, it also does not have a shower room, there is just the main bathroom, the en-suite and a separate WC. The information folder in the house mentions a speaker system but there was no speaker for us to use and there were no batteries in the remote controls in the conservatory so we had to purchase our own. There were also some light bulbs out, most notably the main light in the conservatory so it was very dark in here in the evening. Also we could not use the sky mini box in the conservatory it wasnât working. There is a leak in the conservatory and due to the heavy rain we had one night rain was pouring in, the roof in the downstairs living room also needs repairing as there was a small leak here too. Despite these minor things we did have a wonderful stay and would consider staying here again if the things above had been rectified.

Firstly, Iâd like to say that Minerva is a lovely property in a great spot.
However, there are issues. On arrival, one of the first things we had to do was pick up two dog poos off the balcony from the previous guests. We also found as the week went that the standard of cleanliness was poor throughout. Pots, pans, and plates still with food remnants on, breadsticks in the sun room drawer, and general dirt and grime in all rooms. It was clear that this place was given a brief once over at best. With regard to facilities, there was no speaker or Alexa as stated in the property details. We rang to ask and was told that the previous guest had smashed it. Granted, you canât control what guests do but surely during the âdeepâ clean and inventory check this should have been picked up and a replacement put in. There was also an issue with the hot tub which took two full days to get to temperature so we lost the use of it on day one. Finally, the mattresses are so old that there is literally no cushioning left in them. I felt like I was sleeping on a wooden door. A real pity that such a nice property is not being given the treatment it deserves.
