For those seeking comfort, character, style and an atmosphere unique amongst our collection, then this medieval castle is the perfect choice for your luxury château holiday! This fabulous self-catering chateau is surrounded by medieval ruins providing a truly atmospheric holiday experience.
Château De Baloigne, and indeed the whole estate, is protected by the government as a Historic Monument. However, the ancient building has been combined with 21st century touches such as a fully fitted kitchen, hot and cold running water and modern bathrooms with showers. The interior décor is traditionally French but with a few Spanish touches.
Château De Baloigne can sleep up to 15 guests in six bedrooms in the main house and a basic studio apartment is also available in a separate part of the ruins if needed (all of which overlook the medieval ruins).
In addition, a tower with two bedrooms and bathrooms is included for 16 to 18 guests including a stunning rooftop terrace where you can sleep out under the stars on warm summer nights.
There is also table tennis, various dining terraces, a beautiful old open fire and a library.

The Ardeche river is a great spot to picnic, swim or fish. There are plenty of water sport activities locally and the crocodile park nearby is also worth a visit! The nearest swimming pool is just a 10 minute drive away and is great for the kids if they don't fancy the river below the château.
Essentials (such as bread and wine) can be found just 2km from the château. There are also a couple of good restaurants within walking distance. The charming village of Saint Michel de Boulogne is 4km away whilst larger supermarkets and other services can be found in Aubenas (18km).
The area is renowned for its multitude of outdoor activities including horse riding, walking and canyoning on the river to name just a few locally.

As five seasoned travellers we’ve never stayed in a place quite like this. It’s bizarrely eclectic. But it’s also truly wonderful as a real live castle steeped in history and surrounded by idyllic National Park. Make sure you search in the multitude of drawers and cupboards in various rooms to get the different sets of crockery and cutlery or you’ll be eating your roast lamb on bread-and-butter plates. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
