About this property

In a village setting in southern Brittany, Maison Marjolaine is a charming and inviting holiday home ideally placed for visiting the historic town of Vannes as well as the stunning landscapes and beaches of the Morbihan Gulf.

This maison has been recently renovated and offers beautiful furnishings as well as a great sense of space. The lounge has a contemporary yet elegant ambience whilst the open-plan kitchen-diner is filled with light from the garden windows and doors. There are three pretty doubles and a twin as well as two modern shower rooms, ideal for two families or a small group of friends wishing to holiday in relaxed and comfortable surroundings.

Outside, across the large garden, the fantastic swimming pool is set in the heart of the lawn, surrounded by a poolside terrace and a boules court close by. The south-facing terrace is the perfect place for a sundowner – perhaps try a glass of Breton sea-water beer or cider brewed locally, before firing up the barbecue or wandering out to the village restaurant.

As well as wonderful local walks, a nearby golf course and a summer Base de Loisirs with fishing and watersports within a short drive, one of the greatest appeals of this region is the handsome town of Vannes, a true historic gem of Brittany. Spend time admiring its beautiful architecture as you walk by the 13th century ramparts, look out for concerts in the town’s magnificent gardens and visit on market day to soak up the bustling atmosphere as you pick up all sorts of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and of course seafood including oysters from the Morbihan Gulf.

As you explore the gulf by foot, bike or boat, come across tiny islets, fascinating wildlife and rare birds as well as stunning sandy shores on the edge of the sea. Hop on a ferry to two of the largest islands, a paradise for walkers, or hire canoes, paddle-boats or kayaks to be mesmerised by the natural beauty of this incredible part of Brittany.

Maison Marjolaine is located in a small village in southern Brittany, around a forty-minute drive from Vannes and the incredible Gulf of Morbihan.

The attractive village is home to a boulangerie, butchers, pharmacy and restaurant whilst there is a children’s playground also within a short walk. The town of Malansac, about 6km by car, features further amenities including a large supermarket. Historic Rochefort-en-Terre (10km) is also a pleasant local town to visit with its museum and château.

There are country walks straight from the village and golf-lovers can enjoy a round on the nine-hole course around 5km away. Just north of Malansac, Parc De Préhistoire De Bretagne is sure to be loved by dinosaur enthusiasts young and old or you may prefer the nearby Moulin Neuf Base de Loisirs offering fishing, kayaking and other watersports (usually open July and August) as well as an Escape Game centre for families with older children.

The capital of Morbihan, Vannes, is such a picturesque place to spend the day. Wander along its attractive Promenade de la Garenne alongside the town’s historic ramparts, look out for concerts taking place at the Jardin des Remparts, explore the medieval lanes and admire beautiful buildings, then soak up the ambience at Place Gambetta by the port. The market on a Wednesday and Saturday morning is a joy to experience and there are also two indoor markets, one with a hall specialising in seasonal seafood products from sea bass, scallops and spider crabs to the famous Gulf of Morbihan oysters.

Pick up a boat tour of the stunning Gulf of Morbihan or take a ferry to the islands Île-aux-Moines and Île-d'Arz, the two largest of the 42 islands across this incredible gulf. Hire bikes to explore charming Île-aux-Moines or set off on foot - Île-d'Arz is especially wonderful for walkers.

Elsewhere in the Gulf of Morbihan, discover wild beaches such as Plage de Bétahon, Plage des Barges and Plage des Granges or seek out the sandy shores at the seaside resort of Damgan, only half an hour by car. The gulf is a paradise for watersport lovers – there’s no better way to admire the landscapes than by canoe or paddle board, whilst there are of course ample fishing opportunities and oyster farms. It’s also a region known for its vast variety of rare birds and wildlife.
