A short walk to a fantastic beach on Normandy’s Le Pays de Caux, Manoir De La Plage offers an abundance of charm and comfort, set within four hectares of wooded grounds with a glimpse of the sea from the beautiful lawns.
A large Anglo-Norman style property, part of the manoir has been attractively refurbished to rent out to guests with a private entrance and picturesque garden. On the ground floor, a modern kitchen-diner lies alongside a cosy lounge in the conservatory whilst upstairs, across two wings beneath the typically sloping ceilings, you will find four bedrooms and two bathrooms, each one with simple yet pretty décor.
The gardens are simply glorious – imagine listening to the birdsong with your morning coffee surrounded by woodland or enjoying al-fresco feasts serving gastronomic delights from local Normandy markets. You can peek through the estate's towering trees towards the sea and youngsters will adore the little play area, not to mention the vast amount of space around you.
Potter down the country lane to the local seaside village and wander along the promenade, admiring the beach, little huts and distant cliffs. There is a moving Canadian war memorial, mini-golf and a couple of places to eat including an authentic oyster restaurant with a sea view.
Discover other gems along the Alabaster coast such as the historic village and beaches of Varengeville-sur-Mer, and picture-perfect Veules-les-Roses, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and a superb spot for salt and freshwater oysters, locally known as Veulaises.
The magnificent Jardin Le Vasterival is also within easy reach, as are wonderful coastal walking trails including valleys between the cliffs such as the Valleuse de Vasterival. In the other direction, bustling Dieppe awaits with its vibrant marina, impressive château and boat excursions out to the English Channel – no wonder Oscar Wilde adored this town.
Don’t miss the Saturday morning market in Dieppe showcasing some of the best regional produce including fresh fish, local cheeses, meats, calvados, cider and more – perfect to take back to your gorgeous Normandy holiday home.
Within walking distance to a brilliant beach and small coastal village, Manoir De La Plage enjoys a fantastic setting in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy, only a short drive from the ferry terminal in Dieppe.
The village is home to a couple of places to eat, including an authentic oyster restaurant overlooking the sea (you can also buy them to takeaway but do check seasonal opening dates) as well as a patisserie, gourmet grocery store and mini-golf.
The beach is pebbly with sandy shores at low tide, as is typical of the beaches of Le Pays de Caux. Watersport lovers note that there is a surfing school here as well, open most weekends (excluding Jan/Feb) and weekdays during certain holidays.
The pretty village of Varengeville-sur-Mer is under a 10-minute drive away with its beautiful church perched on the cliff with the sea below, and yet more impressive stretches of beach. Le Jardin Le Vasterival is also within easy reach, as are some remarkable coastal walking trails such as Gorges Des Moutiers and the Valleuse de Vasterival, a stunning valley between the Alabaster cliffs.
Further west, drive to the picture-postcard village of Veules-les-Roses (20km), one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, with watermills along the Veules river where watercress grows (look out for it at local markets) alongside charmingly thatched cottages. The village’s beach has a promenade, pier and little beach huts – it’s especially lovely at the weekend when salt and freshwater oysters, locally known as Veulaises, are sold by the coast.
In the other direction, Dieppe (8km) is a wonderful town to explore with its vibrant marina, historic centre and impressive château. Look out for fishing excursions or boat trips to view the Alabaster cliffs from the sea and don’t miss the bustling Saturday morning market which sells a wealth of gastronomic delights from the Normandy region.
Further afield, you could drive as far as Étretat (76km), famous for its white cliffs, or soak up the historic ambience of Honfleur and Deauville, two typically French and elegant seaside resorts both reached in just under two hours.
Away from the coast, the beautiful and historic city of Rouen is just over an hour away, perhaps a good stop en route to visit Monet’s gorgeous gardens in Giverny (132km).

Nous avons passé un super week-end chez Serge. Qui est très accueillant et plein de bons conseils. Myriam nous a accueilli avec gentillesse, merci encore. La propriété est assez vaste, ce qui la rend très calme.
