Through ancient stone walls and deer grazing on the lawns, Château des Rameaux rises from the hillside like a chapter from a forgotten legend. A sanctuary once tied to the noble Crusaders and the famed De Lusignan dynasty, this historic stronghold carries with it over 800 years of noble heritage, perfectly located close to Beynac-et-Cazenac, one of France’s most beautiful villages. Back to the present day, mornings begin with mist lifting slowly from the Dordogne River below, while hot air balloons drift overhead in the golden light.
The château’s interiors stretch across three generous floors, offering a characterful blend of historical charm and modern ease. Families and groups can gather in the lounge or over long meals on the kitchen terrace, whilst the sun sets in fiery colours across the valley. With six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a library corner and a dedicated entertainment space beneath the wood beams, this home is both convivial and calm.
Outside, 12 acres of extensive hillside grounds unfurl across little paths, steps and sun-dappled lawns. Stroll as far as the Roman-stepped swimming pool, framed by a terrace and pool house, promising long afternoons of laughter, lounging and apéritifs.
From its elevated perch, Château des Rameaux is perfectly positioned in the cultural and culinary heart of the Dordogne. Surrounded by fairytale villages such as Beynac, Saint-Cyprien and Roque-Gageac, and within minutes of markets, grand châteaux, canoeing adventures and UNESCO sites, guests enjoy a rare balance of seclusion and access.
Whether gathering the whole family for summer festivities or retreating with friends for a quieter season, Château des Rameaux invites you experience history, nature and beautiful surroundings in the very heart of the Dordogne.
Perched on the top of a hill with glorious valley views, Château des Rameaux offers a rare blend of privacy, grandeur and exceptional proximity to the Dordogne’s most celebrated attractions. This glorious medieval château, just 500 metres from the banks of the Dordogne River, is an enchanting base for guests seeking to immerse themselves in the region’s rich heritage and natural beauty. With the majestic Château de Beynac and the distinguished Château de Castelnaud just a short drive away, the setting is steeped in centuries of history and charm.
Just down the hill, the tiny local village holds a remarkable secret – it’s home to France’s oldest Roman wine cellar. A little further, energetic guests can head to the local bakery around 1.5km (uphill on the way back) for some of the best croissants in the area!
For a wider range of amenities, there is a small supermarket in Saint-Cyprien (6km) and restaurants scattered around nearby villages within a 10 to 15-minute drive, including Beynac-et-Cazenac (5.5km), classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
For those drawn to the outdoors, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, just ten minutes away, is a haven of sculpted greenery with panoramic views over the Dordogne Valley. Canoeing along the river provides a magical way to experience the landscape, floating past limestone cliffs, ancient fortresses and storybook villages like La Roque-Gageac (10km). Meanwhile, the medieval bastide town of Domme (16.5km) offers one of the finest viewpoints in the region, and the atmospheric streets of Sarlat-la-Canéda (17km) are alive with culture, cuisine and architectural beauty.
