Imagine sitting back on your spacious upper terrace looking out over the lake with a glass of Grand Cru from the Médoc wine region as the sun sets in the distance. Maison du Lac enjoys such a privileged location a few metres across from the sandy shores of Lac d’Hourtin-Carcans, also a short stroll from charming restaurants, shops and a range of watersports.
You are only a very short walk away from the promenade lined with pine trees and the sandy lakeside beach, perfect for relaxing in the summer sun and swimming in the gently shelving water. No wonder the views are so spectacular from this fine holiday villa, especially on the top floor which has been especially designed to make the most of the wonderful vistas with its lounge and two en suite bedrooms, all leading out to a decked terrace facing the pine trees and lake.
A contemporary home with modern comforts, guests can expect a Smart TV with Netflix alongside sophisticated yet practical furnishings across both floors. Downstairs, as well as two further bedrooms and a shower room, there’s an open-plan kitchen-diner with sliding doors leading to a patio for al-fresco dining. With plenty of space and stylish design, this is a fantastic holiday home whether staying with kids who will adore the proximity of the beach or a group of friends seeking spectacular scenery, prestigious wines and a great range of outdoor adventures.
Wander along the lakeside promenade and within 500m you will be surrounded by shops including a boulangerie, cheese and wine stores and a fish monger that sells delicious oysters. Youngsters will adore the ice-cream parlours and there is a good choice of restaurants too.
If you love the ocean, then it’s only a 5-minute drive to the vast sandy beaches of the Atlantic at Carcans Plage or drive further south to the bustling seaside resort of Lacanau, both popular with surfers. Étang de Lacanau is another idyllic spot for long nature walks and watersports or hire bikes and follow some of the magnificent trails across this incredible part of the Médoc peninsula.
The prestigious AOC vineyards near Pauillac and Margaux can be reached in around 45-minutes by car alongside Michelin starred restaurants and world-famous wine chateaux (Latour and Lafite-Rothschild to name a couple).
Not to mention the handsome city of Bordeaux, only an hour away, an absolute dream for any wine enthusiast, history lover or foodie with its vibrant restaurant scene, atmospheric markets, beautiful architecture and famous Cité du Vin wine museum.
In the Médoc region of Gironde, Maison du Lac enjoys a privileged position just a few metres across from a beach on Lac d’Hourtin-Carcans, one of France’s largest lakes. As well as being a very short drive from the vast sandy shores of the Atlantic coast, it’s also a great location for visiting the famous vineyards and wineries of Pauillac and Margaux.
Just step out of your front garden, cross the one-way road, and you will find yourself on a sandy beach on the edge of Lac d’Hourtin-Carcans, backed by beautiful pine trees. You have easy access to a range of watersports on the lake such as water-skiing, pedalos, sailing and para-gliding as well as boat hire. The lake is of course wonderful for swimming and the shore shelves gently making it ideal for youngsters.
The local village, also on the edge of the lake, is less than 500m away – stroll along the promenade lined with pine trees. It’s home to a handful of restaurants, a couple of bars, ice-cream parlours as well as a small supermarket, boulangerie, butchers, fish mongers (look out for fresh oysters) and a weekly market. Carcans, about a 10-minute drive away, has a wider range of amenities including a larger supermarket.
You can also hire bikes from the local village – this region offers a wealth of cycling trails including part of the La Vélodyssée which follows the Atlantic coast along the Médoc peninsula as far as Arcachon Bay and beyond.
If you feel like a day by the Atlantic coast, it’s around a 5-minute drive to Carcans Plage, a particularly popular spot for surfing enthusiasts. The bustling seaside resort of Lacanau (20km), another popular surfing spot, has a number of restaurants along the beachfront - an ideal spot to watch the sunset. Alternatively, discover the beauty of Étang de Lacanau, perfect for long walks, swimming, sailing and other watersports.
For a change of scene, head out and explore the Médoc peninsula which is especially well known for its wine production. Look out for famous wine châteaux including Latour, Lafite-Rothschild and Mouton-Rothschild or seek out smaller family-run wineries to sample some of France’s finest wine appellations. The wine villages of Pauillac and Margaux are around forty-five minutes by car, as are a number of excellent places to eat from Michelin starred restaurants to markets selling fresh mussels, oysters, foie gras and garlic.

Beautiful house with every amenity and with fantastic views across the lake. Beach just a few steps from the garden and good restaurants just a short walk away with shops and a market. Very relaxing just sitting on the balcony and enjoying the view.

The house is a perfect holiday home, which has that wow factor about it. The fittings and furniture are to a very high standard, and the location is to die for, and just yards from a most perfect beach on the beautiful lake. Maubuisson is a delightful spot with a good mix of shops and restaurants, as well as a very attractive market. The surrounding countryside gives many opportunities for pleasant walks or cycle rides. Overall a delightful place to spend a holiday.
