About this property

Set in the heart of 25 hectares of land, with stunning views over the rolling countryside of the Lot-et-Garonne region, is Chateau Agenais. This ten-bedroom property offers a peaceful escape and is an ideal holiday rental for small and large groups alike.

The chateau, actually two independent dwellings, is set around a private courtyard - with swimming pool, main house and guest cottage, all accessible from the beautifully manicured lawns. There is also a fantastic covered terrace for outdoor dining.

Fully restored over the last 20 years, it now boasts the grandeur of stone vaulted ceilings and monumental fireplaces, and yet it is still extremely comfortable and homely.

The chateau is ideally located on the outskirts of the charming riverside village Penne-d'Agenais, with its Notre-Dâme de Peyragude basilica and countryside views.

The scenic town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot is nearby, known for its charming historic centre, inviting shops and twice-weekly market. The hilltop village of Pujols, with its 16th-century houses and flower-filled gardens is also close by and recognised as one of France's 'Plus Beaux Villages'.

Spend your days canoeing or kayaking on the Lot River, exploring vibrant market towns and visiting surrounding vineyards, producing some of France's finest wines.

Located within the medieval riverside village of Penne d'Agenais, Chateau Agenais is a short drive away from the picturesque riverside town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the Lot-et-Garonne department and near Pujols, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

Villeneuve-sur-Lot’s historic quarter is just over 10km away, featuring medieval buildings, vibrant shops, and a twice-weekly market held under the 19th-century covered hall. Enjoy the scenic views of the Lot River as you cross the 13th-century bridge, and check out the art exhibitions at the historic Musée de Gajac. Convenient amenities, including a large supermarket and a sports complex with tennis courts, are available on the outskirts of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, close to the villa.

The charming village of Pujols is also easily accessible. Its small center is quick to explore, yet filled with historic houses dating back to the 16th century and colorful summer gardens. Enjoy stunning views of the river and countryside below, then stop by a local restaurant for a meal.

Other nearby attractions include  and the beautiful bastide village of Monflanquin (20km), another of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Villeréal (32km) is a must-visit on market day, with its medieval market hall and atmospheric night markets typically held on Monday evenings in the summer.

Further east along the Lot River, Puy-l'Évêque (36km) is another idyllic village in the region, while Cahors (60km), just over an hour away, is worth visiting for its historic center, fine dining, wonderful markets, and surrounding vineyards producing some of the world’s best Malbec.

In the Dordogne, the lovely village of Issigeac (48km) hosts a renowned Sunday morning market, while Bergerac, on the Dordogne River, is about an hour's drive away. Heading south, medieval Agen (31km) offers a fantastic day out – be sure to try Agen prunes steeped in Armagnac.
