About this property

Set between Bordeaux and Bergerac, step into a world of old-fashioned charm at this historic château in the most glorious of grounds with a heated swimming pool, close to the banks of the Dordogne River and only 9km from the characterful market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande.

Stroll through the 11th-century tower into the beautiful gardens and feel the sense of history all around you. It’s thought that the château’s origins also date as far back as the 11th and 12th centuries and its distinctive towers were added in the 1700s. Much of the château’s heritage remains as you can see from its stone spiral staircase and grand fireplaces whilst the home has been furnished with a melange of new and old, creating a classic yet authentic ambience across its living spaces and five en suite bedrooms. We especially love the warmth of the traditional kitchen and the salon with its graceful décor, the heart of this welcoming abode.

Outside, the vast grounds are a joy to spend time in whether swimming in the heated pool, relaxing beneath the century-old plane trees or following the 2km trail around the property by the little stream and through the woodland. Doze in the hammock between the trees, then feast en famille at the huge table and benches in the shade of the giant oak. As evening nears, watch the sun set over the surrounding farmland.

You can reach the Dordogne River in less than 2km and a little further is a picturesque riverside village and bar. A wealth of restaurants can be found within a short drive, many in the gorgeous market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, home to one of the Dordogne’s largest and most beautiful markets on a Saturday morning.

Bergerac and Bordeaux await for fantastic days out, as do other gems of the Gironde, Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne regions such as Duras, Eymet and Castillon-la-Bataille. Not forgetting exquisite Saint-Émilion with its UNESCO World Heritage vineyards, one of the most enchanting hilltop towns of south-western France and reached in just half an hour from Château Des Seigneurs.

Located between Bergerac and Bordeaux, Château Des Seigneurs is in the Gironde department just a 3km drive from a picturesque village by the banks of the Dordogne River.

The historic market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is only 9km by car, home to one of the region’s best and largest markets on a Saturday morning as well as a weekly Marché Nocturne in the height of the summer, a fantastic opportunity to enjoy local cuisine and wine. Elsewhere in the town, admire its medieval lanes and charming squares, make the most of the restaurants and shops and look out for canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the Dordogne.

Golf-lovers have a great choices of courses in the region such as Château des Vigiers and Golf Club de Saint Méard de Gurçon, both within 19km, and Grand Saint-Emilion Golf Club, around half an hour away.

Other wonderful places to visit include Bergerac (34km) on the banks of the Dordogne, with its boat trips, pretty squares, atmospheric markets and Maison des Vins, and Château de Monbazillac (34km), famous for its sweet wines.

Wine-lovers should also spend a day in the incredible hilltop village of Saint-Émilion (30km); it’s surrounding vineyards have been classified as a unesco World Heritage site. Bordeaux (75km) and its wineries is another grand day out whilst market lovers should soak up the ambience of Libourne’s Sunday morning market, one of the largest in the Gironde, reached in around a 40-minute drive.

Issigeac (50km), one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ also hosts an enchanting Sunday morning market or venture to the beautiful villages of Monflanquin and Monpazier, both just over an hour away.

Slightly closer are historic Eymet (35km) and Duras (20km), both close to the Dropt River and home to yet more vineyards, wineries and undulating scenery of the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne. Alongside the Gironde, these are such superb regions of south-western France.

I absolutely loved the stay, the pool was amazing and the bikes were so fun! We even got to ride and drive the golf buggy which was exhilarating, you could feel the adrenaline rushing through your veins! It was a magical stay and the view was so amazing that it was like living in a fairytale. Thank you so so much for the stay! Merci beaucoup! We loved using the pool and our rooms. We played French Revolution and my sister and I started writing a murder mystery inspired by the chateau. We loved having rides in the buggy and picking the fruit was amazing. Staying here was awesome. I spent most of my time on my bike with my dad, we went down the hill and it was so FUN!!! We even got to go on the buggy, it was awesome. Merci beaucoup!
