Le Dernier Moulin is a fully restored moulin in an area steeped in character and history, only a short drive from the remarkable city of Carcassonne. A branch of the Orbiel River runs beneath the house and beside the garden - this is the water that once powered this former cloth mill. 

The closest village is of Conques-sur-Orbiel (3km), home to a bakery and a couple of restaurants. There is a good choice of supermarkets in the outskirts of Carcassonne, including a Carrefour hypermarket around 10 minutes by car.

A short drive brings you to the heart of Carcassonne (10km), where the fairy-tale turrets of the medieval citadel rise above the landscape. Stroll through the cobbled lanes of the Cité, a unesco World Heritage Site, or explore the elegant Bastide Saint-Louis, the lively lower town filled with good restaurants, café-bars and a wonderful market. The famous Canal du Midi, another unesco treasure, offers towpaths perfect for walking or cycling along the water’s edge.

Beyond Carcassonne, the region brims with authentic charm and discovery. Enjoy leisurely tastings at local Minervois and Carcassonne vineyards, many of which are within a 30-minute drive, or explore the Cathar ruins of Lastours (7km), perched dramatically on the hillside. Meanwhile, the nearby Cabrespine (15km) and Limousis caves (10km) reveal a hidden underground world, while hikers will find countless trails weaving through the Montagne Noire and surrounding Aude and Hérault countryside.
