About this property

In the peaceful surroundings of your Provençal garden, it’s hard to believe you are only a few minutes drive from the wonderful city of Avignon. Set in the heights of the city with the Rhône separating you from the old town, this beautiful holiday home offers tranquillity and privacy and is an ideal place for family or friends wanting to explore this stunning part of southern France. The vast garden is divine with Mediterranean colours and scents, gentle lawns and mature trees providing shade in the summer sun.

The glorious swimming pool is surrounded by swathes of lavender and a wonderful terrace for bathing in the sun or you can seek out a hidden corner amongst the roses to escape with a good book and a glass of local wine. The villa offers al-fresco dining at its best with a characterful terrace ideal for a feast of Provençal delights.

Inside you will not be disappointed with the spacious living room offering comfort with colourful artwork adorning the walls and a fire-place for cooler evenings. The cosy kitchen has everything you will need and there’s an elegant dining area for guests to enjoy.

Each of the five bedrooms is individual in style with pretty fabrics or quirky pieces of furniture and some have lovely French balconies looking over the garden. One of the twin bedrooms is a separate studio in the gardens, ideal for older teenagers craving independence, grandparents or simply if travelling with friends seeking a little more privacy.

This is a formidable area of Provençal landscapes, idyllic hilltop villages and world renowned towns. It’s just a five minutes drive to beautiful Avignon where you can explore the winding streets, experience the excellent dining opportunities and visit two UNESCO world heritage sites, the Pope’s Palace and Saint Benezet Bridge. There’s horse-riding and some lovely walks nearby plus older kids will love kayaking along the Rhône or Sorgue.

A little further afield you will find the historical city of Nîmes (40km) with its fine collection of Roman remains including the stunning aqueduct, Pont du Gard, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Or head south to experience the natural beauty of the Camargue, a beautiful combination of land, lagoon and sea with pink flamingos, wild white horses and endless wild countryside.

La Fontaine is the perfect place for relaxation in lovely Provençal surroundings with a wealth of wonderful villages, towns and cities to explore in this captivating region.

Based in the heights of Avignon, in the Villeneuve-lez-Avignon region, the villa enjoys a great location just a short drive from the impressive Fort Saint-André.

It’s a much loved area and in the past nobles built their villas and palaces here, sheltered from view in the hills.  Within a few minutes drive, stroll the cobblestone streets, sample fine wines and oysters or drink coffee under the towering chestnut trees. Don’t miss the famous and brilliant Brocantes market every Saturday morning which attracts the most serious of antique dealers. Just near the villa, towards the Rhône, you will find the Collines des Morgues, an enclosed wooded park with marked trails, picnic spots and play areas with lovely views over towards the city.

The small and lively city of Avignon (2km) is just five minutes drive away. Explore the winding medieval streets, experience the excellent dining opportunities and visit two unesco world heritage sites, the Pope’s Palace and Saint Benezet Bridge. The covered market offers all sorts of delights or head to the weekend farmers, flower and flea markets for wonderful local produce and a bargain or two. The bohemian quarter of the city, just next to the Sorgue river, has more of a village atmosphere with its artists, musicians, cafes and wine-bars.

The region is in the heart of this formidable area of vineyards, idyllic hilltop villages, world-renowned towns, and summer landscapes of sunflowers. Gordes (50km) is just one of the beautiful villages worth visiting with stunning architecture, set in the outstanding Luberon region, surrounded by lavender fields in the summer months. Or head south to the heart of the Parc Naturel Regional des Alpilles and the charming town of St-Remy-de-Provence (27km) where you can soak up the true Provencal way of life, especially on markets days. Wine lovers mustn’t miss out on a visit to Châteauneuf-du-Pape (22km) whilst Van Gogh’s precious Arles (42km) and Baux-de-Provence (35km), one of France’s acclaimed ‘plus beaux villages’ are also within easy reach.

Those looking for activity have so much on their doorstep

There is both horse-riding and golf within a short drive and both the immediate and wider area are a walkers and cyclists paradise with stunning countryside and landscapes. Older children will love kayaking along the Rhône or Sorgue and there are plenty of other family friendly activities throughout the region from model railways and open castles to trekking across the tree tops and visiting a zoo.

History lovers should also visit the city of Nîmes (42km) with its fine collection of Roman remains including Maison Carree, one of the best preserved Roman temples in the country. Just north of the city is the stunning Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard, now a unesco World Heritage site.

Another highlight of this area is the stunning landscapes and natural beauty of the Camargue, which can be visited in a day. A beautiful combination of land, lagoon and sea with pink flamingos, wild white horses, rice fields and endless wild countryside, this natural park covers 900 square kilometres of land and beaches. Endless activities can be offered including quad biking and jeep tours across this diverse area. You can also see the traditional and interesting farms where the Gardiens (cowboys) raise bulls for the bullrings of Languedoc and Spain.
