About this property

Sip Languedoc wine by the swimming pool in your courtyard garden of this village home, perhaps accompanied by music from one of the great singers that adorn the contemporary interiors of this historic and charming abode.

Set in the heart of a medieval wine village, not far from Pézenas, Villa Les Chanteurs is a wonderfully renovated maison which dates back to the 18th century, within walking distance to a small handful of restaurants as well as a boulangerie, wine cave, grocery store and weekly market.

There’s an air of authenticity and character alongside modern touches and décor - just look at each of the six welcoming bedrooms, all named after famous singers, most with modern en suites and air-conditioning, also featuring exquisitely tiled floors and attractive furnishings. The pretty sunroom upstairs is a lovely spot for a relaxing game of chess, looking out over the garden and village beyond.

On the garden level, the double-height living and dining room is an especially impressive space to socialise with its superbly equipped open-plan kitchen, a fantastic place to feast with family or friends or just kick back on the sumptuous sofas with loved ones. The owners also take great pride in the family-friendly nature of this home – there are plenty of games and toys for youngsters as well as darts, pétanque and table tennis to keep every generation entertained.

Step through to the courtyard garden and serve an evening aperitif by the bar and summer kitchen, before dining al-fresco by the Weber barbecue, overlooking the heated swimming pool, sun-loungers and mature trees.

Beyond this Hérault village there is so much to explore. Start off in Pézenas, a jewel of the Languedoc region and famous for its historic Saturday morning market and associations with Molière. Then you have other beautiful wine villages, endless vineyards and wineries, so many walking, cycling and horse-riding opportunities, not to mention watersports along the Orb river or by the tranquil Lac du Salagou.

Enjoy oysters and white wine overlooking the Étang de Thau in Mèze or head a little further to the Mediterranean beaches around Cap d’Agde, only half an hour by car. Then if you can find the time, Béziers, Montpellier, Nîmes and even Carcassonne are waiting to be explored – this part of southern France offers endless opportunities for everyone.

In the Hérault department of southern France, Villa Les Chanteurs can be found down a narrow lane in the heart of a medieval Languedoc wine village, only 8km from the beautiful town of Pézenas.

Wander out of your home and within minutes you can stroll to a small handful of restaurants, café-bar, a boulangerie, butchers, a wine cave and mini-market as well as other useful amenities including a pharmacy. It’s a small charming village with its medieval lanes and beautiful buildings, known for its wine production in surrounding vineyards. There is also a lovely market on a Friday morning selling local produce.

There are other restaurants dotted around local villages, within a short drive, as well as a large supermarket only 5km away.

It’s also a fantastic location for visiting Pézenas, one of the most wonderful towns of the region with a particularly excellent historic market on a Saturday morning. Admire Pézenas’ elegant architecture, antique shops, little art galleries and discover many great restaurants. Check what’s on at the famous L'Illustre Théâtre, a homage to Molière who so loved this town. If staying in July and August, look out for ‘Les Estivales’ event on a Friday evening with night markets selling amazing local food and wine as well as plenty of live music.

As well as visiting other picturesque wine villages and Languedoc vineyards, there are many walking opportunities through the countryside and garrigue as well as horse-riding within a short drive. Nature lovers will also adore the area around Lac du Salagou where there are a number of activities from paddle-boarding and kayaking to quad and mountain biking. The River Orb, around Béziers or Cessenon-sur-Orb, is a great spot for canoeing in glorious surroundings.

For a change of scene, visit the Bouzigues oyster beds by boat on the Étang de Thau, around half an hour away, and soak up the summer ambience in vibrant Mèze with its markets, watersports and festivities including traditional summer jousting tournaments.

The Mediterranean coast is within easy reach whether you opt for the beaches around Marseillan Plage and Cap d’Agde, especially popular with families with plenty of attractions, or the interesting town of Sète with its canals, boat trips, port and nearby sandy shores.

The authentic town of Béziers (30km) is another inspiring day out, as is cosmopolitan Montpellier (55km) or spend time visiting some of the unesco World Heritage sites of the region such as Saint Guilhem le Désert (45km) alongside Pont du Gard near Nîmes and the magnificent city of Carcassonne, both around ninety minutes by car.

We were a group of 6 adults (2 x parents, 2 daughters and their partners) and our first time in the area. The house and Caux were fantastic. Particularly the large, open plan area comprising kitchen, dining, and sitting as well as the flexible exterior area (and very nice pool). The upstairs bedrooms are nicely air-conditioned making sleeping easy even if warm outside. Caux offers just enough amenities (bistro, boulangerie, bars, etc.) so you don't have to venture far but we really enjoyed Pezenas which is a short drive away and has lots of choice on everything (the young spent lots of time at the Cafe des Arts bar) not to mention Beziers, Marseillan, Carcassonne, and a must, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert (and much more). Parking is really easy at the Salle du Peuple, right across from the rear gated entrance to the house. We met both the couple looking after the house (local agents) and the owner and all very nice and couldn't have been more helpful and concerned that we had a great stay. Highly recommended and we'd certainly return. Tim

Beautiful home with kind house managers. Pool and outside area is a great size, rooms are clean and welcoming (most with en suites!).
