In the dreamy Languedoc-Roussillon, a region filled with idyllic landscapes, vineyards and Mediterranean beaches, Villa Carreaux Bleus is a lovely holiday home just outside a wine village near the vibrant town of Béziers.
This is a place for care-free holidays; splashing in the heated swimming pool, playing boules, enjoying poolside lunches and gazing out to the countryside around you. The Moroccan-style outdoor lounge is a particularly enchanting place to enjoy a glass of Coteaux de Béziers wine before dining by the summer kitchen and barbecue as the sun sets for the day. Trailing roses, lavender and shady trees give the gardens a Mediterranean feel whilst North African influences add to the rather exotic vibe.
Inside, the interiors are relaxed and homely, ideal for a group of friends or maybe two families with four bedrooms scattered over three buildings; the main house, a pool annexe and two garden suites. The grand kitchen-diner, with its cathedral high ceiling and chandeliers, is beautifully equipped whilst the living space is equally impressive with doors leading to one of the terraces. Objets d’art throughout give this holiday home a real sense of character and warmth.
The lovely owners arrange for croissants to be delivered a couple of times a week and can give a bicycle tour of the area if you desire. Indeed, bikes and helmets are provided, including three child seats, ideal for days out exploring vineyards or following the towpath by the nearby Canal du Midi.
This region offers history, culture, incredible scenery and great beaches. Visit some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ within a short drive, experience atmospheric markets in towns such as Pézenas and admire some of France’s UNESCO World Heritage sites in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and Carcassonne. Béziers, just 12km away, offers a true Languedoc experience with its great food, wines and long history of bull-fighting.
Hire canoes along the Orb river, swim in rock pools near Olargues or follow wonderful walking trails across the Hérault. Of course, the Mediterranean is also so close with the long sandy beaches at the seaside resort of Valras-Plage just twenty minutes away.
You may prefer to spend your time exploring local wineries from Minerve to Mèze and beyond, then savour your finds on the poolside terrace at the charming Villa Carreaux Bleus.
Set in the heart of the Hérault in Languedoc-Roussillon, Villa Carreaux Bleus lies just outside a charming wine village, only 12km from Béziers. Surrounded by vineyards, the local village offers a small grocery store, a handful of restaurants and nearby wineries, while further amenities can be found in surrounding towns.
Just a short drive away, the Oppidum d’Ensérune offers fascinating history and panoramic views over the Étang de Montady. The nearby Canal du Midi is perfect for walking, cycling or even hiring a boat for a leisurely day on the water, with the marina at Colombiers a lovely spot for lunch.
Béziers itself is a vibrant and often overlooked gem, known for its wine culture, historic cathedral and lively summer feria. To the west, the Minervois region offers scenic walks, vineyards and beautiful villages such as Minerve, one of France’s most picturesque spots.
Nature lovers can explore the Orb River, with opportunities for canoeing and swimming, or visit the stunning Gorges d’Héric. The charming town of Pézenas is also worth a visit for its markets and artistic heritage.
The sandy beaches of the Languedoc, including Valras-Plage, are within easy reach, while day trips to Narbonne, Montpellier and Carcassonne complete this wonderfully varied location.

We have travelled all our lives and recently decided to change our style. Instead of hiking or always on-the-move vacations, we thought we would try renting a home to use as a base. We couldn’t be happier with our decision, but most of the credit belongs to this wonderful villa and the owner, truly a host extraordinaire. Our only fear is that the bar has been set so high now that future rentals will suffer in comparison. Maureilhan, although not much in itself, is perfectly located for trips in the area, whether to Sete, Biziers, Roquebrun, Sérignan, or Montpellier. Our final note: although we rented the villa for ourselves, we had three lots of friends drop by for a few days each. With its separate quarters, the villa is perfect for two or three couples. The dinners provided by the owner at Pourquoi Pas were highlights so thank you so much! We couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more.

Absolutely beautiful villa and pool. We had a great holiday made even better by the generosity and kindness of the owner who bought and delivered a number of breakfasts as well as paying for a wonderful meal at a nearby restaurant. It felt that nothing was too much trouble. If you are looking for an idyllic restful holiday this is the one. Too many extras to mention. Close enough for some sightseeing and beautiful beaches. Would recommend a car.
