About this property

Surrounded by the aromas of summer roses and lavender, relax under the towering cedar trees or by the heated swimming pool in your vast garden at this gorgeous 17th century home just a short drive from the Dordogne river. In a small village amidst the mesmerising landscapes of the Quercy region, this handsome manoir has been beautifully restored by its loving owners.

Step inside the chartreuse and be enchanted by the elegant décor featuring exquisite original features alongside carefully chosen furnishings showcasing both traditional and modern design. Doors from the relaxing living and dining rooms lead straight to the private gardens whilst a French country kitchen is home to an impressive Lacanche oven alongside ultra-modern appliances. Air-conditioning in the bedrooms, Wi-Fi and a Smart TV are other state-of-the-art features that guests should expect in this high-end home.

Climb up the grand pink marble staircase with its wrought iron balustrade to the first and second floors where you will find five splendid bedrooms, most with king-size beds, as well as four brilliant bathrooms (three of which are en suite). Bedrooms have been carefully decorated with pretty fabrics, cosy rugs and works of art. Look out for the impressive original wood beams on the top floor!

Dine al-fresco with family and friends and make the most of the five hectares of private walled garden with its heated swimming pool, boules pitch and romantic spots where you can appreciate the tranquillity around you.

This charming stone-built manoir with its traditional terracotta tiled roof is in a little medieval village with a restaurant, café and a wonderful annual flower market on 1st May. You are also close to the owners’ hotel, around 5km away on the banks of the Dordogne, where you are welcome to use the tennis court and dine in their Michelin starred restaurant with its picture-perfect riverside terrace.

Spend days canoeing along the Dordogne, finding hidden spots for peaceful picnics, visit fascinating caves and explore idyllic villages. Historic Rocamadour is only 15km away, the market town of Souillac is also within easy reach whilst Sarlat-la-Canéda (40km), one the Dordogne’s most enchanting historic towns, can be easily reached. Wherever you go, try some of the amazing local cuisine from foie gras to chestnuts and truffles from nearby forests.

Head to the vineyards of Cahors to sample some of France’s finest wines, visit watermills and famous French châteaux and hike through some of the stunning scenery of both the Lot and Dordogne valleys. This awe-inspiring region is a true delight to discover.

In the heart of Occitanie, just 5km south of the Dordogne river and a 20-minute drive to the incredible Rocamadour, Chartreuse Des Roses is situated in a small village in the Lot department of southern France.
If staying in late Spring, look out for the annual flower market that takes place in this delightful medieval village on 1st May. The small village is also home to a restaurant and cafe whilst shops and further amenities can be found a short drive away in Souillac (12km).

For those of you who love fine food, the owner’s riverside Michelin starred hotel-restaurant is only a 5km drive away (do book a table well in advance) where you can also use the hotel’s tennis court. Bike hire for all ages can also be arranged if you wish to cycle around the local area and beyond.

This region offers historic caves, beautiful villages and incredible natural landscapes as well as fine food from exquisite foie gras to chestnuts, truffles and cèpes from the dense woodland. Not to mention the excellent wine from surrounding vineyards as far as Cahors (52km), home to some of the world’s best Malbec grape varieties.

Visit enticing morning markets in the Dordogne in enchanting places such as Domme (33km) and Sarlat-la-Canéda (40km), then spend summer evenings in late July and August soaking up the ambience at night markets in nearby Souillac (12km) and Gourdon (20km).

Some of the remarkable villages not to be missed include Rocamadour (15km), set dramatically on a cliffside and visited by pilgrims for centuries, and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (60km), one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ whose natural beauty has inspired artists over the years. Some of the delightful villages and castles of the Dordogne are also easily reached with La Roque-Gageac (40km), Beynac-et-Cazenac (44km) and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (45km) all within an hour by car.

Closer to home, hire canoes along the river Dordogne, try rock-climbing at one of the many sites nearby or visit some of the amazing caves such as Grottes de Lacave (5km), Gouffre de Padirac (30km) and admire reproductions of the historic cave paintings at the Lascaux IV (50km).
