Villa Taupe enjoys an elevated hillside setting in Ammoudi, on the outskirts of Agia Pelagia, a charming and picturesque coastal resort. This relaxed fishing village is well suited to families and those seeking a peaceful atmosphere, with a selection of traditional tavernas, small boutiques and a lovely sandy beach. Set within a scenic amphitheatre-shaped bay northwest of Heraklion, Agia Pelagia takes its name from the church of the Monastery of the Sebbathians, the ruins of which lie one kilometre west of the village. Surrounded by hills and mountains, the area offers access to several small sandy and rocky beaches, including Lygaria Bay, Mononaftis Bay, Kladissos Bay, Made Beach, Psaromoura Beach, Fylakes Beach and Ammoudi Beach, some of which are only accessible by boat.

A short drive away, Heraklion offers a lively contrast, with its historic Old Town and Venetian harbour at its heart. Highlights include the church of Agios Titos, Morosini Square with its Lions’ Head fountain, and the Koules Fortress guarding the harbour. Visitors can explore the Venetian walls designed by Michele Sanmicheli, browse Daedalus Street’s shops, or visit the renowned Archaeological Museum. The Palace of Knossos, one of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites, is also within easy reach.

To the west, Rethymno combines rich history with a vibrant atmosphere, featuring a sixteenth-century old town, a picturesque harbour and nearby coastal villages such as Bali, Agia Galini, Plakias and Adelianos Kampos, as well as the notable monasteries of Preveli and Arkadi.
