About this property
Set on the windswept Irish isle of Achill Island, this contemporary and bright cottage is an excellent base for exploring the nearby rugged coastline, surfing beaches and nature reserves. Up to 14 guests and three canine companions can enjoy a stay in this elegant two-storey property, with rural views, two lounges and a garden.
Enter the detached cottage and find yourself in the first of two comfortable lounges with neutral-toned décor, sofas and TVs – one also has a wood burner to keep you warm on a chilly evening. Continue into the sparkling and airy kitchen/diner, with a contemporary feel from the large floor tiles and minimalist decor. Admire the mountain views through the glass patio doors while dining at the table. The country-style ‘U’-shaped kitchen has plenty of space for cooking a hearty meal for your loved ones. Also on the ground floor are two double bedrooms, a shower room, and a convenient utility room. Upstairs, is a family bathroom and five bedrooms – three en-suite doubles, a twin, and another double. Outside, you’ll find a partially enclosed garden with a patio, furniture and a BBQ.
During your stay in the small village of Bunacrurry, explore your immediate surroundings to find a small lake, the Archill Heritage Centre, the Abandoned Franciscan Friary, and a distillery (all within 0.5 miles). In the north of the island, you can wander through the ruins of the Slievemore Deserted Village (5.5 miles), relax on the Achill Island Secret Beach (7.5 miles) and hike along the Cliffs of Croaghaun (9.5 miles). Head west for the unusual Cathedral Rocks (4 miles) and the White Cliffs of Ashleam (7.5 miles).
