About this property

If you are looking for a character-filled base for your trip to Puglia, then look no further than Trullo Itria. This historic building was rescued from ruin by the owners and lovingly restored using traditional materials and décor to create a warm and welcoming place to stay. With a range of pretty villages under 10km away and beaches only 20km away, you will have plenty to see and do while on holiday here.

As you approach this beautiful home through fields of fig trees and olive groves, you will spot the iconic, whitewashed cone-topped buildings, surrounded by native planting and overlooking the sea beyond. This home is a delightful place to spend your Italian escape and can sleep four guests, so it would be ideal for a small family or two couples travelling together.

The house is all on one level and is made up of four original trullos, which are only found in this part of Italy, as well as a recently constructed lamia, a stunning room with vaulted ceilings, which fits seamlessly in with the rest of the property. Within these rooms, you will find a living room, a writer’s nook, a well-equipped kitchen and two cosy bedrooms. The interiors have been designed to reflect the simplistic beauty of these agricultural buildings, which were built in the early 18th century, so inside you will see exposed stone work, an open fireplace and locally made blankets and handicrafts. The owners, however, have also endeavoured to provide guests with modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and chic bathrooms with walk-in showers.

Surrounding the home is a gorgeous garden packed with bee-friendly florals, shrubs and lawned areas. There is a pergola with a large dining table which looks over wooded hillsides and the dazzling Adriatic Sea, plus there is a swimming pool for a refreshing dip on a hot afternoon.

This part of Puglia is dotted with charming hamlets and villages, which you can visit with ease. The closest village is a few kilometres away and offers a number of amenities, such as a small grocery shop, a bar and a restaurant serving barbecued meats, which is a local speciality.

This Trullo is perfect for those who wish to be located in the countryside, and a car will be needed to move around and discover more beauty. The Trullo has a unique charm with its agricultural style, renovated but still humble to its origins.

Also nearby, you are able to visit the much-loved town of Alberobello, which is 17km away, the ancient seaside town of Polginano a Mare, which is 30km away and the stunning beaches of the Adriatic coastline, such as Savelletri beach and Torre Canne beach, which are approximately 20km away.

As mentioned in...

Trullo Itria is a charming home which is set in an enviable position, nestled amongst Puglian farmland and olive groves. Though the home is located on a serene hillside, you will not have to travel far to find pretty villages, amenities and the sweeping coastline.

Close to the house you can find walking and cycling routes which are great for getting out in nature. If you need to pick up some groceries or would like to dine out without driving, you will discover a small village just 1km away, with a restaurant, shop and bar.

There are plenty more villages and towns you can visit close to the house and one wonderful place to explore is Locorotondo which is an 8km drive away. Locorotondo is one of nine breath-taking whitewashed towns which are scattered around the hills in this part of Puglia. The town spirals outwards from the church which is at its heart and is packed with the beloved Trulli buildings. Locorotondo is less of a tourist hub than some other nearby towns which gives it an unspoilt and authentic atmosphere. While here you can wander around the narrow alley-ways lined with homes, artisan shops and family-run trattorias where you can tuck in to a delicious lunch.

Another must-visit location is the breath-taking town of Alberobello which is listed as a unesco World Heritage Site to preserve the Trulli buildings. The town is a mere 17km away from the villa and is one of the areas top attractions. While here you can shop for souvenirs in the local shops, sample regional dishes in the cafes which spill out in to the town squares and visit the museum to learn more about the area. You could even book on to a Puglian cookery class and impress your family at dinner with your new skills.

On top of having some fantastic hilltop villages, Puglia is also blessed with a gorgeous coastline dotted with sandy beaches. Torre Canne beach is one of the closest to the villa at 20km away and is a fabulous place to spend the day sunbathing and paddling in the sea. The beach also has a bustling harbour and a lighthouse close by. A little further along the coast is Savelletri beach which boasts exclusive beach clubs with great facilities and bars.

You are even well-placed for a day trip to Polignano a Mare which is 30km away and home to some of the most incredible beaches in all of Italy as well as a lively town centre. Though Polignano a Mare is renowned for its beaches, make sure to head in to town and pay a visit to some of the ancient churches, museums and galleries. Poetry lovers will also be enjoy following the outdoor poetry trail which winds around the town. As night falls Polignano a Mare offers a wide array of restaurants which overlook the sea and if you fancy going dancing and indulging in a cocktail or two, you will find some great bars and clubs to choose from.

My husband Roberto and I stayed last week in the Trullo Itria, near Locorotondo, repeating last year's experience of the holiday in the trullo which I really recommend taking, an Italian excellence. A dream week in this beautiful trullo, an oasis of peace among the olive trees and with a breath-taking view of the sea. The pool is beautiful, we never left it. The Itria valley has a special place in our heart. I warmly thank the local team for their kindness and perfect organization.

We chose Trullo Itria for its simple beauty and we can confirm, after having been there, that it is truly an immersion in the taste and typicality of the trulli valley. Sleeping in absolute silence and waking up to beautiful light and the sun above the pool is truly priceless. Trullo Itria has all the comforts to spend comfortable and relaxing days. We liked to stay there in the morning and then move on to discover the beaches of the coast and the many villages that are absolutely worth visiting. A great holiday!!
