Tucked away on an expansive country estate and yet close to the beautiful city of Ostuni is Casale Pratelli, a private and romantic retreat. This ‘lamia’ villa is nestled within typical Mediterranean terrain, surrounded by olive trees and rich, red earth. The wider area is all hills and countryside for as far as the eye can see, meaning you have total peace and relaxation at Casale Pratelli.
The traditional stone building features vaulted stone ceilings and 19th-century paved flooring to its interior, making a stay here feel even more authentic. Outside, you have your own garden for enjoying idyllic views over the Valle d’Itria countryside.
Snuggle up with a drink on the living room’s traditional sofas, and then enjoy an atmospheric meal at the dining table in the charming little kitchen which features a range of convenient facilities including dishwasher and washing machine. There’s a restful double bedroom with views over the outside space, with a bathroom with shower completing Casale Pratelli’s simple but delightful accommodation.
The outside space makes the most of the lovely scenery, with a covered patio and table for al fresco dining under sunset skies. There’s also a private swimming pool that overlooks the picturesque countryside that surrounds the resort. Lie back on a sun lounger and take in the views before taking a refreshing dip in the pool.
Enjoy long walks around the attractive country resort that Casale Pratelli is part of and you might even meet the resident donkey and horse! Walks further afield have you coming across rambling olive groves and stunning areas of natural beauty.
Less than a 15-minute drive from the villa is Ostuni, which is known as ‘The White City’ due to its numerous whitewashed buildings. Other pretty Valle d’Itria towns are a short drive away, including Alberobello and Cisterino. Also visit historic Lecce for plenty of historic sightseeing opportunities.
The coast is also within easy reach, with many beautiful beaches to choose from on days out. Explore the lush landscapes of Parco Dune Costiere, which is dotted with olive groves that sprawl out towards the coast, on foot or by bike.
***For larger parties it is possible rent sister properties Casa Azzurra (sleeps 10-12), Villa Anfora (sleeps 5) and Trullo Joel (sleeps 4) on the same estate - please follow links for more information.
The country resort has over seven hectares of land to explore, so you don’t need to go far to discover this beautiful area of Puglia. When you can bear to tear yourself away from the grounds, you’ll find plenty of countryside in which to enjoy long walks.
The nearest amenities can be found in Ostuni, otherwise known as ‘The White City’. It’s less than a 15-minute drive, so stocking up on groceries and other holiday essentials is quick and easy. To fully appreciate the city, you simply must explore its old town area with the iconic whitewashed buildings that gave the city its alternative name. Historic attractions include a 15th-century cathedral and the city walls. Be sure to visit the local fresh fruit and vegetable market that’s held every Saturday, if you should visit on this day. And if you visit towards the end of August, you might be lucky enough to experience the famous Cavalcata di Sant'Oronzo festival.
Other Valle d’Itria towns are an easy drive away from the villa. Marvel at the trulli-lined streets of Alberobello that give it a charming, fairytale-like feel. Then explore what Cisterino, Martina Franca and Locorotondo have to offer.
The Ostuni coast is dotted with beaches for enjoying a laidback day out by the sea. Relax on golden sands and swim in azure waters at Quarto di Monte. There are plenty of facilities here, including a bar and showers. Parco Dune Costiere is also close by, with its varied landscapes and range of wildlife. Hike through inland olive groves and explore wetlands and sand dunes close to the sea and go on a guided tour to learn more about the area.
The city of Lecce is a fascinating and historic place to visit. The buildings span many centuries, with several landmarks dating back to ancient times. It’s also famous for its wealth of baroque architecture and art, giving it the reputation as being the ‘Florence of the South’.
