About this property

Villa Santa Venere is a traditional stone farmhouse surrounded by orchards, forests and olive groves in the province of Salerno, south-west Italy. Rurally located and yet close to the town of Pollica, the hamlet of Acciaroli and some of Italy’s most breath-taking beaches, this is an ideal base for a holiday with friends or family.

You will find the villa at the end of a quiet lane on a hillside, surrounded only by lush greenery. From here, you can make your way into the grounds through the gates, which open up to reveal three dwellings amidst pretty gardens. The property comprises the main villa, which is a 2-storey farmhouse, and an additional two outbuildings. In total, the home can accommodate up to 15 guests, making it perfect for a trip with a larger group.

The main house has three bedrooms upstairs, while downstairs has a cosy living room, a dining room with antique furnishings and a kitchen with the original bread ovens intact. This villa is an authentic family home with typical Italian décor, local materials and period features and is somewhere your party will feel comfortable and relaxed during your stay. The owners have provided all of the modern conveniences that guests could need, including Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and a smart TV.

If you are travelling with a few couples or maybe a number of small family groups, then the two additional dwellings are fantastic for a bit of privacy, but still allow you to be able to come together over dinner or to enjoy the garden. Each of the outbuildings has a double bedroom, a bathroom and a living space with a kitchen and a double sofa bed, so can sleep up to 4 guests in each. You will also find a furnished terrace outside each dwelling, a serene spot for breakfast with a garden view.

The vast 5 hectares of grounds are shared between the three buildings and are a wonderful communal space for you to spend time together as a party. You are sure to wish to spend plenty of time outdoors making the most of the lovely climate and surrounding scenery. You could unwind in the private pool with a hydromassage feature, dine al-fresco or take a walk amongst the fruit trees in the orchard area. The garden even has a stream you can listen to as you sunbathe and gaze out at the views of the hills and the dazzling blue sea beyond.

This home's location is brilliant; you can enjoy spending time in the forests and countryside around the villa, but you will not feel isolated as the town of Pollica is 4km away and has all the amenities you need. Also 4km away is Acciaroli, a seaside hamlet with incredible beaches. This area is famous thanks to the Cilento National Park, charming towns, villages and breath-taking beaches. Covering 100km of mountain regions and coastline, this national park is the second largest in all of Italy. The villa is within the national park, and you can be amidst unspoilt nature and wild walking trails within a 30km drive. The park also covers the nearby sweeping coastlines, sea caves and tiny fishing villages, protecting the abundant marine and wildlife.

Villa Santa Venere is located within the Cilento National Park in the province of Salerno. Encompassing verdant mountains, vast wild coastlines, forests and pretty villages, this area is as magical as the nearby Amalfi coast but feels more authentic and less crowded.

This location is brilliant for getting out and enjoying nature and the wide-open spaces all around you. There is plenty on offer nearby, from gentle walking routes to more challenging cycling or climbing trails. There are mountain top ziplines for thrill-seekers, and for those who prefer to get out onto the water, there are boat trips and caves for snorkelling and surfing nearby.

If you would prefer to spend your time sipping a glass of local wine in a picturesque piazza, then this area is perfect for this too! The closest town to the villa is Pollica, which is a mere 4km away and has a lovely old town with a good selection of bars, cafes and eateries. Originally settled around the 8th century by Greek refugees, Pollica is also packed with historic buildings to discover. The 13th-century Castle of Capano Princes dominates the landscape and is a great place to visit to learn more about the town's history. The town also has a number of ornate churches and former palaces to visit.

Also 4km from the villa is Acciaroli, a charming fishing hamlet. Acciaroli is where you will find the nearest beaches, and there is an excellent range to choose from, whether you prefer a lido with sun loungers or a tranquil cove to take in the scenery after a coastal stroll. This tiny hamlet is famous because Ernest Hemmingway spent lots of time here and was very inspired by the place and because there are around 300 centenarians living here! People now flock to Acciaroli to try the local rosemary water, which is rumoured to be the key to a long life. However, the delicious food, sunshine and beautiful scenery probably don't hurt either. After sipping on some rosemary water, you could visit the Franciscan convent or the Norman watch tower or pop into some artisan shops.

For an interesting day trip, you could explore one of the Ancient Greek archaeological sites nearby, such as Velia, 22km away. Velia is filled with staggering ruins and fortifications, first built by Phoenician settlers around 600 BC. An even bigger archaeological site and park called Paestum can be found 50km away.
