In the Monferrato hills, this traditional Piedmont villa has been stylishly restored to welcome up to eight guests. After a day exploring historic wine towns and UNESCO-listed landscapes, cool off in the private pool overlooking the vineyards, then savour the region’s finest food and wine on the vine-clad terrace.
Step inside and embrace the comfort of this delightful holiday home as you lounge by the fireplace in the living room and prepare meals in the small but classic DeVol kitchen. Upstairs, the main double bedroom enjoys glorious vineyard views from its pretty windows, next to a children’s twin and a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower. On the top floor, beneath the characterful wood beams, two further double bedrooms await, each with its own shower room. A fourth shower can be found in the handy laundry room in the basement.
Step outside and breathe in the fresh country air as you take in the views of rolling hills and vineyards. The enclosed garden features a paved terrace for long lunches, whilst just below there’s a swimming pool, reached via a gate, set almost among the vines. This area is renowned for its Moscato wine, with tastings available at a nearby winery in the local village just over 1km away.
Come across wonderful restaurants and historic charm in nearby Cassine and Acqui Terme or venture a little further to Nizza Monferrato, the heart of Barbera d’Asti production. In Canelli, a UNESCO-listed town, explore historic underground wine cathedrals and sample its famous sparkling wines.
Return to Villa Pomi’s grand terrace, open a bottle of spumante and raise a glass to family, friends and the incredible Piedmont scenery that surrounds you.
Villa Pomi is located in the hills of Monferrato, less than a 15-minute drive from the spa-town of Acqui Terme. With views of vineyards, the house is set on the road connecting Acqui Terme and Cassine, making this a fine launchpad for exploring the natural beauty, fine cuisine and world-class wines of the Piedmont region of northern Italy.
Just a short drive away lies the small village of Ricaldone, home to a restaurant and winery, surrounded by rolling vineyards that produce some of Piedmont’s most prized Moscato. In nearby Cassine (5km), visitors can explore medieval architecture, including the striking Church of Saint Francis, and discover a wider range of amenities and good restaurants.
Meanwhile, Acqui Terme (9km) tempts with its thermal springs at La Bollente, Roman ruins and elegant piazzas. Take a leisurely stroll through Acqui Terme’s old town and enjoy aperitivo at one of the many stylish cafés. Look out for the twice-weekly market, a great way to stock up on fresh local produce.
Indeed, food and wine lovers are truly spoiled here. The surrounding countryside is dotted with family-run wineries where guests can taste Barbera, Dolcetto and Moscato wines paired with local delicacies like tajarin pasta, truffles and rich cheeses. Nizza Monferrato (16km), at the heart of the Barbera d’Asti production zone, offers vibrant markets and renowned enotecas, while Canelli (21km), a unesco-listed town, is home to historic underground wine cathedrals that tell the story of Italy’s sparkling wine heritage.
For a change of pace, the provincial capital of Alessandria (25km) awaits with elegant shopping streets, museums and cultural landmarks. Alternatively, head west to the lively food and wine hub of Ovada (28km), where Ligurian influences blend into the cuisine, creating a unique fusion of mountain and coastal traditions.
