Whether you’re a keen golfer or simply looking for a gorgeous home with stunning lake views, Villa Meina is a fantastic place close to the shores of Lake Maggiore and an incredibly picturesque lakeside town.
In a hillside position, with the lake just 1.5km below, the vistas are simply beautiful – just imagine relaxing with an Aperol Spritz on the shaded terrace or lazily lounging by the lovely swimming pool. The spacious living-dining room, with its comfortable sofas, satellite TV and striking fireplace, has doors opening up to the little garden whilst the brilliantly equipped kitchen leads out to the al-fresco dining terrace with steps down to the pool.
All four bedrooms are so inviting with subtle colours and tasteful personal touches creating a warm and welcoming ambience. The two bedrooms on the ground floor have en suite bathrooms whilst upstairs, under the eaves, throw open the windows from the bedrooms to be greeted by the most magnificent lake views.
Wander down the hill (or it’s a short drive) for a bite to eat in the local town with its attractive lakeside setting or head off by car to one of the many other places dotted along Lake Maggiore’s shores such as Lesa, Arona and the much-loved resort of Stresa. Find summer lidos and watersports close by or head slightly further afield for the most wonderful hiking and horse-riding opportunities in the surrounding hills and mountains.
The owners can arrange discounted rates at a range of local golf courses, including the impressive Castelconturbia Golf Club, or you may prefer to spend your days exploring the enchanting landscapes by boat – a trip from Stresa out to the breathtaking Borromeo Islands is a must!
Then there’s the narrow-gauge train journey across the border to Switzerland, the mesmerising Piedmont vineyards or even a day trip to the fashion capital of Italy, Milan. That’s if you can tear yourself away from the beguiling lakeside surroundings of Villa Meina.
In a hillside position with fantastic views of Lake Maggiore, Villa Meina is in a great position for exploring this captivating part of northern Italy.
The local town, on the shores of the lake, is around 1.5km away (if walking, do note it is a steep hill on the way back, you may prefer to drive). It’s a beautiful town which is well known for its mild climate, graceful 19th century villas and its wonderful lakeside setting where you will find beaches, summer lidos and watersports.
Other picturesque villages and towns dotted along the lake’s shoreline include Lesa (6km), Arona (6km) and the much-loved lakeside resort of Stresa (16km). Stresa is such a pretty place for a day out by the lake with its wonderful promenade, little shops and restaurants as well as frequent ferry services to other lakeside resorts.
The magical Borromeo Islands can be reached from Stresa either by ferry or private water taxi. Visit Isola Bella’s Baroque palace and stunning grounds or take a tour around the impressive gardens at Isola Madre. By contrast, Isola dei Pescatori is possibly the most authentic and charming with its inhabited village and amazing restaurants serving freshly caught fish.
The marble quarries in the lovely lakeside town of Baveno, under half an hour by car, are also worth visiting or for a truly spectacular day out consider taking the narrow gauge railway between Domodossola and Locarno, crossing the Swiss border, with connections by train from Stresa (you can return by ferry, passing yet more breathtaking scenery en route).
Golf is also hugely popular in this area and discounted green fees, lessons and transportation can be arranged at various local courses including the vast Castelconturbia Golf Club, about 20km away. Activity-lovers will also adore the numerous hiking trails through the surrounding hills and mountains as well as fantastic horse-riding and cycling opportunities.
Lake Orta is another enchanting place to visit, only half an hour by car – it’s an area less frequented by tourists compared to the larger northern Italian lakes. Explore the steep cobbled lanes of Orta San Giulio (20km), enjoy the magnificent views and perhaps even catch the ferry across to the tiny Isola San Giulio.
Spend the day touring the vineyards of the world-famous Piedmont region or head to the fashionable city of Milan for the day by car or train for sight-seeing, shopping and more.
For true fashion lovers, the shopping outlets of Serravalle can be reached even closer in just over half an hour by car.

We were greeted with freshly made fruit salad and a grand tour of the house. The host had a lot of brochures and seemed to know a lot about the area. The house is nice and the view is breathtaking! We drove everywhere because the hills are really steep, but it wasn't too far to anything.

Wonderful house perfect for family celebrations Golden Wedding Anniversary Treat! It truly was a great treat! With views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding hills to die for and a fabulous swimming pool, this was the perfect choice for my wife and I and our two grown up children plus partners. With 4 double rooms and no less than 3 bathrooms, this is a house that “works”.......we ate practically all our meals outside on the terrace, and it is perfectly situated for excursions to Stresa, the Borromean Islands, Lake Orta and for the train from Arona into Milan....Realistically, you will need a car for the excursions and for shopping, being on a steep hillside. The owners could not be more helpful and even treated us to Prosecco and a delicious cake in honour of our Anniversary!
