Sitting on the grounds of a vast citrus farm, this elegant home is an oasis where you can get away from it all and truly unwind. With three sumptuously decorated buildings that can comfortably accommodate up to twenty guests, Villa Sashi is the perfect place for a larger group to stay, as there will be plenty of room for everyone in the entertaining spaces and gardens.
The same family has owned the land which encircles the home for 600 years. The owners take great care of their land, producing delicious organically grown citrus fruits, and the same love and attention to detail has gone into the restoration of the villa.
The home was bought many centuries ago and has been renovated and furnished to the highest standard. The interiors are warm and inviting, giving the villa a feeling of a real home away from home. Each room has been painted in a pretty tone which befits the feel of the period building and boasts antique furnishings and high-quality linens. The high ceilings and large windows allow the buildings to be filled with light which pours in from the garden and illuminates decorative details and artwork.
The villa is spread across three separate buildings, all close to each other. There is the main villa, where you will find eight gorgeous bedrooms. The other bedrooms are in the guest house, which can sleep up to six guests, so it would be ideal for an individual family. The other building is the pool house and orangery, an excellent place for guests to gather together in the expansive, window-lined living room or the grand-dining room just off the professional kitchen, used by private chefs. Villa Sashi is a fully-staffed villa, so housekeeping staff are included for seven hours daily, and three meals a day will be cooked for you.
Upstairs there is a huge studio space where you can take classes such as yoga and Pilates. All parts of this large, family home are well-decorated and offer all modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, Smart TVs and Air conditioning to make your stay even more relaxing.
There is plenty to do and lots of land to explore here without needing to leave the estate. You can enjoy lazy days lounging around the pool area and tucking into a leisurely lunch al fresco. After unwinding in the garden, you could put on your running gear and head out on a jog around the beautiful trails surrounding the home, or maybe you would prefer to book a guided tour of the farm which would be fun for the whole family. The estate covers a vast amount of ground where you can walk, picnic in the shade of an orange tree, or play tennis. You can also book exercise classes at the home, or if you are a foodie, you could take a cooking course here and learn some recipes to take back home with you.
When you wish to dine out in the evening, drive to the nearest village, Scordia, located 14km away. For a wider range of amenities, there is Catania, a thriving historic city which is 30km away. You are also within easy reach of several sandy beaches, such as Lido Azzurro, near Catania and filled with elegant beach clubs.
Set amidst staggering volcanic hills and rolling farmland, Villa Sashi is a fantastic choice for a holiday with friends or family. The home is perfectly placed for relaxing days by the pool and long hikes through the vast and beautiful grounds around the house.
As there is so much open space enveloping the villa, there are many areas for walking and jogging where you can immerse yourself in nature. When you want to go out for the day, within easy reach of the house, you can visit a golf course, walk around Lake Lentini or discover the landscape by horseback on an organised trek. You can also reach some of Sicily’s gorgeous beaches with ease; Agnone Bagni Beach is 30km away and is a sweeping natural beach, or if you would prefer a chic, serviced beach club, then visit Lido Azzurro which is 32km away and near to Catania.
The South-East of Sicily has incredible cities with rich history and culture. Sicily’s second city, Catania, is one such place and is located a 31km drive away. After a series of disasters, including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions destroyed much of Catania’s old town, a large-scale rebuilding programme took place in the late 1600s. The stunning Baroque buildings you see today were constructed at this time using stone from the nearby volcano. There is lots to see in Catania, such as the beautiful cathedral, the Diocesan Museum, a medieval castle and the town hall. If you wander around the lively port area, visit Catania’s famous fish market or eat fresh seafood at a charming sea-view trattoria. Near central Catania, there are also sandy beaches where you can spend the day sunbathing, or maybe you would prefer to head out along the sweeping coastline on a boat excursion.
Another unmissable city is Syracuse which is 66km away by car. Syracuse is a delightful place for a day out with the whole family, and you will find something for everyone here in this enchanting city. If you are short on time, start by exploring Ortigia, the old town of Syracuse, located on an island connected to the mainland by bridges. Ortigia is a picture-postcard place where honey-coloured buildings line the winding streets. Everywhere you look, you will see churches, castles and stately homes. The island also has some bustling markets to pick up fresh produce and handicrafts. Another of Syracuse’s popular attractions is the amazing Neapolis Archaeological Park, home to some of Sicily’s best-preserved Greek and Roman ruins. After a busy day exploring these wonderful sites, you can choose from many delicious local dishes for dinner, including freshly prepared tuna or arancini.
