It’s hard to describe how beautiful this setting is, perched on a hillside and reached via a narrow road – the views make it totally worthwhile. As you arrive, admire cypresses and olive trees across the vast gardens and follow the pretty little paths to the accommodation. The lake vistas and sense of solitude will take your breath away.

Villa Scaligeri sleeps up to 14 guests across three dwellings. The main part is an impressive three-storey house with traditional interiors – gather beneath the stone arches of the living-dining room, prepare Italian dishes in the charming kitchen and sleep restfully across three inviting bedrooms (two doubles and one twin).

The other part of the residence comprises two apartments, one on the ground floor, the other upstairs. Both feature two double bedrooms and two contemporary shower rooms alongside an attractive open-plan living-dining room with a modern integrated kitchen and doors opening to a terrace or balcony with glorious garden and lake views.

Across the spacious grounds, discover the infinity swimming pool overlooking the lake as well as picture-perfect spots for a peaceful coffee or glass of Bardolino wine. Meanwhile, children will love the trampoline and playhouse. Gather for al-fresco feasts making the most of the incredible scenery.

In a remote setting, there’s a tiny village with a restaurant only 600m away, a great base for hiking, whilst the main lakeside road can be reached in around 2km. Along this part of the eastern shore, come across swimming spots and seasonal water-based activities such as paddleboarding and kayaking. Torri del Benaco, with its waterfront promenade, old cobbled lanes, medieval castle and marina, is only 5km away for yet more lakeside charm.

Ferries and boat trips will whisk you away to the likes of Garda, Bardolino and the western shores of the lake. You are also well placed for visiting the region’s famous theme parks, around half an hour by car, or you may prefer to romance of Verona, only an hour by car, before retreating to the stillness of your hillside sanctuary overlooking Lake Garda.

With stunning views over Lake Garda, Villa Scaligeri is set in the hills above the eastern shore of the lake only 5km from the picturesque lakeside town of Torri del Benaco.

Once you leave the lakeside road, it’s a fairly narrow mountain road up to a tiny little village, a great base for hiking, also home to a restaurant with panoramic vistas. The narrow, steep road then continues up towards Villa Scaligeri – you be rewarded with the most beautiful natural surrounding and glorious lake views. The owners recommend avoiding large or low-clearance vehicles.

Back down by the lake, Torri del Benaco (5km) will enchant you with its old town, restaurants overlooking the waterfront and medieval castle. Stroll along the lakeside promenade, admire the harbour and learn all about the town’s history of growing citrus trees. Along this stretch of the lake, look out for picturesque beaches, swimming spots and water-based activities such as paddleboarding and kayaking.

From Torri del Benaco, public ferries or private boat tours are a superb way to experience the beauty of Lake Garda and easily reach other villages and towns. Start by exploring the lively town of Garda (12km). Admire pastel-coloured buildings by the vibrant waterfront and lively squares with café terraces and restaurants.

A little further along the shore, Bardolino (16km) is also very pretty with its laid-back charm and wine-making heritage, home to excellent Bardolino DOC wines. Further south, a visit to Sirmione (37km) is the perfect day out with its idyllic Rocca Scaligera castle, thermal springs and flower-filled lanes in its historic centre.

Theme park enthusiasts note that Lake Garda is home to Gardaland Resort (incorporating Peppa Pig Land, Sealife Aquarium and Legoland Waterpark) and Movieland Studios with various popular rides and attractions.

You may prefer the romance of Verona (50km), around an hour away by car, and you could even pick up a high-speed train from Peschiera (30km) to Venice (163km) for the most remarkable day out in one of Italy’s most famous cities.
