Modern, compact and right by the golf course, Villa Florencia is perfect for an intimate break on Gran Canaria. Located on the outskirts of Maspalomas, this 2-bedroom holiday home is peaceful and private, and offers the use of a wonderful pool and terrace.
The house covers two levels, with patio doors leading from the downstairs living area to the terrace, where you have an attractive dining area and a barbecue, as well as two comfortable seating areas. You are just steps away from the pool, which has sun loungers on the adjacent terrace, looking out to the Salobre golf course.
Inside, the light and cool living space has TV and internet access, as well as a DVD player and music system. A contemporary, open kitchen gives you an oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, alongside an indoor dining area.
An elegant bathroom with bath tub and shower complements a double and a twin bedroom. The rooms have large windows, and there is also air-conditioning to keep you comfortable. The house also offers covered parking.
Beautiful Maspalomas is famed for its sand dune-filled beaches which extend for some distance. There are some nudist areas on the beach, popular surfing spots and some great beach bars too. It’s also known for its lighthouse, which took 28 years to build. This impressive structure now looks out over a promenade lined with shops and restaurants.
Maspalomas is a place which expects plenty of visitors, so you will find all the things you need around town, including many bars, cafés and restaurants. There’s entertainment in the form of nightclubs and casinos, but you may find it just as pleasant to take a walk on the beach and enjoy the climate.
The town is right on the southern coast of Gran Canaria, but hire a car and you can reach the capital, Las Palmas, in around 45 minutes, with many more beautiful places to stop along the way.

The capital, Las Palmas, sits in the far north-eastern corner of the island. Among its highlights are the huge marina, Muelle Deportivo, and the beautifully designed park, Parque Doramas. Also, look out for the eye-catching Alfredo Klaus Auditorium which itself looks out on Las Canteras beach. You may even see a show or a concert there.
There is lots more of architectural interest in the town. Many of the most interesting buildings are found in the Vegueta area, including Santa Ana Cathedral. You will also find a Christopher Columbus museum and a modern art gallery in this district.
Away from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria has many more highlights. The Cueva Pintada archaeological site is a must for history lovers, while the cloud-filled views at the island’s peak near the town of Tejada are definitely worth the journey. On the southern coast, you have the sand dunes of the extensive beaches at Maspalomas, while charming spots like Puerto de las Nieves and Agaete in the north west, will simply make you feel good with their unspoilt natural beauty.
As one of Europe’s most gay-friendly destinations, Gran Canaria has no shortage of welcoming bars and clubs, while the regular carnivals and fiestas provide good fun for all. Whatever you plan on doing, you can be sure Gran Canaria has the weather for it, with the sun shining pretty much continuously all year round.
