About this property

Built in the 18th century, Casa Ciones is a traditionally built manor house with imposing stone walls and terracotta tiled roofs. Arranged over three floors, the interior is warm and inviting, with exposed timber beams and wooden floors running throughout.

On the ground floor, there are multiple living areas to enjoy. A large living-dining room features a lovely stone fireplace, with a table at one end and an arrangement of comfortable-looking armchairs and a sofa at the other, creating an inviting space to enjoy long dinners and cosy afternoons during the cooler months. A second living room on the upper floor boasting a high, sloping ceiling offers a well-stocked bookcase for you to browse and dip into, whilst to the rear of the house, a further living area with a traditional stone floor and a variety of seating options enjoy views out to the garden through the large floor to ceiling windows.

Guests will love the kitchen, with its flagstone floor and its characterful wooden pillar. Equipped with all the necessary appliances, there are plenty of surfaces and utensils to prepare meals, and a classic farmhouse table is perfect for sitting around over a cup of tea or shared breakfast. Accessed via the dining room, doors lead onto a covered terrace where there is a large table to enjoy meals al fresco, and the adjacent sofa area is perfect for sipping a post-dinner drink and making the most of long summer evenings.

On the upper levels, a range of bedrooms offers guests a choice of sleeping arrangements. The first floor features five spacious twin rooms (one being able to join beds), each thoughtfully furnished, giving the room warmth and individual character. A further three rooms can be found on the second floor, with one twin bedroom (being able to join up) and two further rooms with three single beds in each, making a great place for kids or additional guests. Every bedroom has a private bathroom, and they all enjoy a view of the surrounding gardens and woodland - what a treat!

Covering 2 hectares of land, the property is enclosed by a beautiful garden with magnificent oak and beech trees, as well as an incredible 300-year-old cedar, which is protected by the community of Cantabria. Neatly kept, the grass lawn extends away from the house, inviting you to take a quiet walk or sit beneath the trees with a book. A wall delimits the garden from a beautiful meadow, where you can access the surrounding area and head out for country walks. With such a beautiful setting, Casa Ciones is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a complete escape in the Cantabrian countryside, making it hard to want to leave.

Located in the heart of Cantabria, this charming manor house enjoys a secluded setting just outside the pretty village of Barcenaciones and a short drive from the wonderful Oyambrian coast.

Nestled at the foot of the hill below the Saja River, Barcenaciones is a typical Cantabrian village with picturesque stone houses and cobbled streets. Whilst there are few amenities, it is within easy reach of the neighbouring towns, and the rich surrounding landscape is perfect for exploring nature and enjoying the peaceful countryside setting.

A 15-minute drive takes you to the delightful Cabezon de la Sal, where the region’s popular market is held every Saturday in the central square. Wander the plentiful rows of fresh produce to purchase artisan bread and sweets or sample locally-made cheeses. There are a handful of cafes and restaurants around the town where you can try out delicious traditional cuisine, such as the cocido montañés, a popular dish of white beans and sausages from the area. Just outside the town, the impressive redwood forest is perfect for an afternoon walk at all times of the year. Stroll beneath the shaded canopy and marvel at the giant trees that reach an average height of 36 metres!

The beautiful Medieval town of Santillana del Mar lies just 15 minutes to the north. Forming part of the route of the Pilgrim's Road to Santiago de Compostela, the town has been remarkably well-conserved with various defence towers and Renaissance palaces, making it an important historical site. Stroll the narrow streets and admire the traditional architecture, finishing up in the main square where you can admire the town hall and 18th-century palace, which is now a Parador (a popular chain of historic hotels across Spain). Just outside the centre, the archaeological site of Las Cuevas de Altamira is rich in history. Although the original cave is protected, a perfect replica is a wonderful experience for the whole family, and you can enjoy a guided tour to discover the rich samples of Paleolithic art.

Less than 20 minutes away, the beautiful coastline boasts large sweeping bays and stunning cliff-top trails. Forming part of the nature reserves, Playa de Oyambra is a 2km of fine, white sand bordered by lovely rolling dunes. Set between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, the beach can be enjoyed at all times of the year. Take a walk along the shoreline or try your hand at surfing by renting a board or arranging a lesson from one of the beachfront schools. You can't come to the north of Spain without visiting these stunning beaches!
