Imbued with all the rural charm of a traditional Catalonian masia, the property also embraces modernity with recently renovated interiors. There is ample space to chill around the centrepiece 12m x 6m swimming pool, which has an array of sun loungers and a covered dining terrace alongside it. On one side, you have a large lawn area ideal for children to play on, while on the other there is easy access to the wonderfully light kitchen and dining area inside the house.
Here, you have a well-equipped space that is ideal for enjoying dinner or breakfast together. Also overlooking the pool is a bar and lounge area complete with a pool table, Wii games console and Smart TV. There is yet more space to relax in the garden where you will find an outdoor lounge area and a pergola, as well as a barbecue. Bar and chef services are also available to you as guests at Villa Palamos.
The rustic look of the exterior continues in many of the six en suite bedrooms which include three rooms with queen-size beds and three double beds which can be separated to single if needed. The furnishings are elegant and eye-catching, with intricate bedsteads and four-posters adding to the sense of glamour.
The villa is within easy reach of the area’s beautiful beaches and many of its most interesting locations. As well as Roses, you have Empuriabrava, Cadaqués, Figueres, Peralada and many others within a 30-minute drive, and the city of Girona less than an hour away.
The area of Catalonia between Barcelona and the French border is one of the pretty coastal towns, impressive cities and stunning countryside. All of this means you need not restrict yourselves to the beaches, tempting as they may be around here.
Mountainous regions like Montseny and the Cadiretes make heading inland a rewarding experience, whether you traverse on foot or on a bike. The latter area extends as far as the coast north of Tossa de Mar, from where you can move north to visit coastal gems such as Llafranc, Tamariu, Platja d’Aro and Begur.
These offer varying levels of peace and quiet and are home to such diverse attractions as the beautiful botanical gardens of Cap Roig and the popular Aquadiver water-park.
The mountains of Montseny make a fine playground for hikers and climbers, combining rugged terrain with a diverse climate. The smaller Parc del Montnegre i el Corredor lies to the south, offering a relaxing outdoor environment suitable for more casual walkers.
The city of Girona is one of the region’s true highlights, so be sure not to miss out on a visit. Brimming with history, you will have no shortage of architectural and cultural gems to add to your must-see list, among them the Arab Baths and the Catedral de Santa María, famed for its record-breaking wide nave.
Elsewhere in the area are more intriguing sights, such as the industrial city of Terrassa’s National Museum of Science and Technology and the modernist architecture at its Gaudi-inspired Masia Freixa – the sweeping arches are quite something to see. There is more artistic flair to appreciate in Figueres, the birthplace of artist Salvador Dali, and in Castelló d'Empúries, where the awe-inspiring Basilica de Santa Maria is rivalled locally only by Girona Cathedral in terms of size.
