Perfectly positioned between the historic town of Girona and artistic Figueres, Mas Vilafreser sits within a vast estate with its own woodland, walking trails and a covered swimming pool, totalling 76,000 m² of land. Embrace the natural beauty of your surroundings as you arrive at the masía, admiring the towering cypress trees beside the grand entrance door. The interiors on the ground floor are characterful and welcoming with tiled floors, arched ceilings and spacious living areas from the billiard and music room to the lounge with Smart TV. Upstairs, the charm continues with yet more cosy living spaces, a wonderful kitchen (part contemporary, part traditional) and, at the very top, an impressive office and library with panoramic views from its large windows. The former farmhouse sleeps up to 15 guests across its seven inviting bedrooms, five of which feature private bathrooms. The ground-floor is home to two air-conditioned bedrooms with queen-size double beds – we especially love the original 17th century press in one of the rooms. There are another two double bedrooms with air-conditioning upstairs, one of which is a duplex with an additional sofa-bed. The final three bedrooms (two twins and one double) feature fans and are also on the first-floor – guests can expect wood beamed ceilings, characterful furnishings and a true sense of restful charm throughout.
The large estate will enchant guests of every age. Discover the glorious swimming pool beneath its glass domed cover, work out in the gym or relax in the sauna, followed by al-fresco feasts beside one of the two barbecues. Energetic families will adore the football field, ping-pong and table football, or simply follow the paths through the woodland looking out for wildlife – you may even spot a passing deer.
Despite the rural location, surrounded by gentle hills and fields, you are well connected to a wealth of experiences across the Empordà region. Only 14km away, potter around the medieval town of Banyoles and wander to it’s beautiful lake, perfect for long walks, bird-watching, kayaking and summer swimming.
Meanwhile, fall in love with Girona’s winding stone staircases and ancient city walls, explore the eccentric Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, then venture to the Costa Brava, from L’Estartit’s long sandy beach to the hidden coves near Llafranc, in this captivating corner of northern Catalonia.
Mas Vilafreser enjoys an exceptional natural setting with its own private woodland with walking trails. Located in the Empordà region of Catalonia, it sits almost equidistant between Girona and Figueres, and just half an hour from the Costa Brava. Girona Airport is only 32km away, whilst Barcelona Airport, less than a two-hour drive.
This is authentic Catalonia, an ideal region for wonderful walks, hikes, cycling (especially along the Pla de l'Estany greenway) and trail running. Less than half an hour away, Lake Banyoles offers a perimeter walking path, birdwatching opportunities, kayaking and summer swimming spots such as Caseta de Fusta (18km). Don’t miss the beautiful Romanesque church in the lakeside hamlet of Porqueres. The town of Banyoles (14km) itself will enchant you with its medieval centre, museums and festivities. Its lively Wednesday morning market is ideal for stocking up on fresh regional produce.
Art lovers will be keen to spend the day in Figueres (25km), the birthplace of Salvador Dalí and home to the quirky Dalí Theatre-Museum. Meanwhile, head south to the characterful town of Girona (23km) to explore its city walls, old stone staircases, beautifully preserved medieval and Jewish quarters and impressive cathedral.
If you can find the time, venture to the Catalonian coast. From the long sandy beach at L’Estartit (36km) to the picture-perfect coves and fishing villages around Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell (55km), the Costa Brava offers guests a coastal experience rich in variety and natural beauty. From L’Estartit, take a boat trip out to the protected Medes Islands, a paradise for keen kayakers, snorkellers and diving enthusiasts.
