Located in the Empordà region of Catalonia, it sits almost equidistant between Girona and Figueres, and just half an hour from the Costa Brava. Girona Airport is only 32km away, whilst Barcelona Airport, less than a two-hour drive.
This is authentic Catalonia, an ideal region for wonderful walks, hikes, cycling (especially along the Pla de l'Estany greenway) and trail running. Less than half an hour away, Lake Banyoles offers a perimeter walking path, birdwatching opportunities, kayaking and summer swimming spots such as Caseta de Fusta (18km). Don’t miss the beautiful Romanesque church in the lakeside hamlet of Porqueres. The town of Banyoles (14km) itself will enchant you with its medieval centre, museums and festivities. Its lively Wednesday morning market is ideal for stocking up on fresh regional produce.
Art lovers will be keen to spend the day in Figueres (25km), the birthplace of Salvador Dalí and home to the quirky Dalí Theatre-Museum. Meanwhile, head south to the characterful town of Girona (23km) to explore its city walls, old stone staircases, beautifully preserved medieval and Jewish quarters and impressive cathedral.
If you can find the time, venture to the Catalonian coast. From the long sandy beach at L’Estartit (36km) to the picture-perfect coves and fishing villages around Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell (55km), the Costa Brava offers guests a coastal experience rich in variety and natural beauty. From L’Estartit, take a boat trip out to the protected Medes Islands, a paradise for keen kayakers, snorkellers and diving enthusiasts.
