Guests say

Barton Cottage in Cheltenham is highly praised for its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and prime location close to local amenities. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and thoughtful welcome packs. While parking can be tight and the driveway small, the cottage's charm and proximity to the village make it a favourite for repeat visits.

Guests consistently note the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as immaculate and very clean. The attention to detail in maintaining a tidy environment contributes to the overall positive experience.

The cottage's location is frequently highlighted as perfect, being close to the main village and shops yet far enough from the hustle and bustle. Its proximity to local attractions and the high street is a significant plus.

Comfort is well-regarded with mentions of a cosy wood burning stove, comfy beds, and a warm atmosphere. Some guests suggest additional seating for larger groups and a higher shower head for taller individuals.

Facilities are generally praised, including good Wi-Fi, smart TV, and a well-equipped kitchen. However, there are minor comments about the driveway size and suggestions for additional furniture, indicating room for improvement.

Guests are delighted by the thoughtful touches such as welcome packs with treats and essentials. While these gifts are warmly received, it is noted that such offerings are subject to availability and not guaranteed.

About this property

This 250-year-old, three-story stone-built cottage, Barton Cottage, is located in the centre of charming Bourton-On-The-Water in Gloucestershire. This cottage is a great location for a trip to the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with character features such as beams and exposed stone, and facilities just a short walk away. When you arrive, there is a rear, fenced garden with a bistro set where you may have a cup of tea in the mornings. Inside, the kitchen, dining area, and sitting areas combine to provide a social centre for your company, with all you need for a relaxing, self-catering getaway, including a well-equipped cooking space and dining table for four. After supper, gather around the woodburning stove and watch your favourite programmes on the Smart TV. After unwinding with your loved ones, go upstairs to the bedrooms; the first floor has a light and airy twin and a contemporary bathroom, while the second storey has a king-size bed with a vaulted ceiling. Explore your surroundings and treat your loved ones to a dinner out; you'll be spoiled for choice with the range of pubs and restaurants in the centre of Bourton-On-The-Water, or there's The Mousetrap Inn, which is just a stone's throw from the cottage. Make your way to the high-street for a variety of boutique shops and the charming Model Village, which is a great place to spend an afternoon. Walkers will appreciate the local Windrush path, which travels along the Windrush River, while bird watchers should visit Jurassic Journey. Outside of the village, the National Trust's Chedworth Roman Villa, an old estate of 4th-century ruins with a museum, may be found. Animal lovers can travel further south to see the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, or if you plan ahead of time, you will be in a prime location for visiting Cheltenham Racecourse and the famed Cheltenham Festival. Gloucester is also easily accessible from the cottage for shopping, culture, and more hustle and bustle if you prefer too! Choose Barton Cottage for a quiet retreat or a fun-filled getaway.

The historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water, located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, dates back to Neolithic times and has over 100 Grade II listed or higher buildings. The lovely high street nestles against the River Windrush, which is crossed by several low stone bridges, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Cotswolds' Venice. An annual football competition is held in the summer in the River Windrush, with the banks lined with fans, with the purpose of scoring as many goals as possible while getting as wet as possible!

We arrived to a lovely welcome pack and the cottage itself was just perfect had everything we needed we did a fire the first night (as we have a woodburner at home ) but think we must of done something wrong as every time we opened door to put more wood on smoke came billowing out so we stopped using it but it’s probable something we did wrong, the shower was lovely the beds were comfy the kitchen had everything we needed and we just managed to get the car on the drive with a few manoeuvres but we got it on there, the location of the cottage is just perfect for Bourton the mousetrap pub pretty much next door is a great little dog friendly pub we also ate at smiths of Bourton lovely food and we had a drink at the Dial house which was beautiful and friendly too ,the village is very dog friendly and it’s a great location for visiting other places too we will definitely be back and will stay at Barton cottage again. I thoroughly recommend Barton Cottage

Excellent location and well equipped, comfortable cottage. Car parking was not sufficient for my Mini Countryman but could park just opposite which was not a problem. We would stay again.
