The property is well-furnished and spacious, with thoughtful touches like a welcome basket. While some guests mentioned noise from the pub and issues with shower pressure, these were minor compared to the overall positive experience.

The property consistently receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews noting it as spotless and well-maintained. This suggests a high standard of hygiene and care.

The location is generally appreciated for its proximity to the Peak District and local amenities. However, some guests noted road noise and parking challenges, slightly affecting the score.

Guests frequently mention the thoughtful welcome basket, which adds a personal touch to their stay. While these gifts are appreciated, it's important to note they may vary and are not guaranteed.

Clay Cross is a small village near the Peak District National Park's boundary. There are numerous shops, taverns, and superb restaurants in the town. The old market town of Chesterfield, which serves as the gateway to the Peak District and has much to offer visitors, is only a few miles away. The town's 14th-century church is known for its "Crooked Spire," which twists strangely from its actual centre, and the town's regular hectic market days are great for visiting the many diverse speciality shops and stalls that line the old Market Hall and lovely Shambles beyond. Queens Park, with its boating lake, footpaths, and summer bandstand, as well as a museum and theatre, are all located in the town.

Craig and Mark were really helpful as were the staff in The George which we would recommend for food too. Spacious yet cosy accommodation which would suit both families and groups of friends.

Overall we were very happy with our stay but comfort could be improved as I could feel the springs in the mattress on the bed in the en-suite room and the duvets could have been thicker for my liking. I also couldn’t get heat from the electric fire but the radiators were sufficient to keep warm. Things for future guests to consider before booking… 1. There was noise coming from the pub as warned in the description (not just music on an evening but even voices, washing up sounds from the kitchen and doors closing etc) but it was perfect for us for New Years Eve Celebrations to just walk down stairs and round into the pub. But remember to contact Craig to book tickets to this event ASAP. 2. Be aware that whilst the property does accept dogs, as there is no access to outside space and on a busy road, it’s not really that suitable for dogs having to put a lead on and walk down the street to take them to do their “business”.

The property was in excellent condition, spacious, yet had a homely feel - the few queries we had were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Thank you for the welcome milk/bread etc which was appreciated. Advice given to park outside door when loading/offloading was very helpful as hill from car park was quite steep. Both showers worked well and loved that I could make meals whilst supervising and interacting with the kids. The road was noisy (we did have windows open), with numerous ambulances (A&E nearby), but wasn't a problem for us, especially as the kids slept through. Would have liked a washing machine if we had been staying for longer, or details for local laundrette. We returned home after a lovely, relaxing break. Thank you.
