Guests say

Guests consistently praise The Old Chapel for its stunning location, exceptional cleanliness, and the warm hospitality provided by hosts Mary and Stuart. The property boasts a well-equipped space with thoughtful touches, including welcome goodies. Its peaceful setting offers panoramic views and serves as an ideal base for exploring the Derbyshire area. The characterful accommodation and its cosy atmosphere have led to many guests planning return visits.

Reviewers frequently mention the cleanliness of the cottage, describing it as well-maintained and spotless. The attention to detail in this regard contributes to the overall positive experience.

The property's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful views, and proximity to local attractions. It is considered an excellent base for exploring the Derbyshire area and enjoying nature.

Comfort is highlighted with mentions of a cosy bed, a cool cottage during hot weather, and a relaxing atmosphere. However, one review mentioned the bed being too springy, which slightly impacts the perfect score.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being equipped with everything needed for a stay. The presence of a log burner and outdoor patio adds to the charm, although one comment about the bedroom being hot in warm weather suggests room for improvement.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is frequently commended, with special mentions of welcome packs including wine and homemade Bakewell tarts. While these gestures are greatly appreciated, it is noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Crich 3.3 miles. This is an outstanding converted chapel, set in the grounds of the owners' home, in the rural hamlet of Wheatcroft conveniently located between Crich and Matlock. Packed with character and charm throughout, the cottage is the perfect place to get away from it all, enjoying true country living and yet be within easy reach of some lovely villages and towns. As soon as you arrive, you know you'll be staying somewhere very special. Enter into the hallway with room for coats and boots and a cloakroom. This leads to a well-equipped kitchen and then up three steps to where The Old Chapel really comes into its own. There is a fantastic sitting room with vaulted ceiling and woodburning stove where you can sit and relax with a refreshing drink. Overlooking the sitting room and up the spiral stairs, there is a beautiful mezzanine bedroom, with wooden carved beams, curved ceiling and an en-suite bathroom. Outside is a pretty patio, overlooking a wild meadow with stunning views over the Amber Valley, and just the spot to enjoy your morning coffee or an after dinner glass of wine. Exploring the beauty of the Derbyshire Dales is within easy reach on the public footpath which is to the side of the cottage. The cottage is the perfect base from which to explore the region's many attractions, including Chatsworth House and Carsington Water and Sailing Club. A fabulous romantic cottage in an idyllic location.

The village of Crich (known as Cardale in the hit TV series Peak Practice) is full of character and history, and boasts a number of shops and several pubs. There are walks around the village, and trams (the village is home to the National Tramway Museum) move up the valley to some of the most beautiful views of the Derbyshire Dales.
