The Shepherds Bothy is a charming and cosy cottage set in a peaceful rural location with beautiful views. Guests consistently praise the tranquil setting, the helpfulness of the host, and the convenience of a private garden and driveway. The welcome pack is frequently mentioned as a thoughtful touch, though not guaranteed. While most guests found the cottage comfortable and well-equipped, some noted minor issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and recycling facilities. Overall, the Bothy offers a relaxing countryside retreat with easy access to local amenities.
Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, but one review mentioned cobwebs, a musty smell, and a log burner that needed cleaning. These issues suggest that while generally tidy, there is room for improvement in deep cleaning and attention to detail.
The location is highly praised for its quiet, rural setting and lovely views, with shops and amenities easily accessible by car. Guests appreciated the peacefulness and scenic surroundings.
Guests described the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with good hot water and a well-equipped kitchen. One guest mentioned always bringing their own airbed, so mattress comfort could not be fully assessed, but overall comfort was positively received.
The cottage offers a range of useful facilities, including a kitchen with modern appliances, a washing machine, and a secure private garden. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues, such as missing kitchen utensils, unclear heating instructions, and limited recycling options.
Several guests appreciated the welcome pack provided on arrival, though it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed. The host was described as friendly and accommodating, adding to the overall positive experience.

The Shepherds Bothy in itself is lovely. It is provides a loving room, kitchen, shower room/sink/toilet and a main bedroom downstairs. There are two single beds upstairs (but I can’t comment on these as we didn’t use them except for storage of our cases). The shower was good and hot. The kitchen has a cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, washing machine, fridge (with small freezer compartment). There was always hot water. A welcome pack was provided. The owner was on holiday prior to our check in & therefore I’m not certain how it compares to normal. On arrival we thought the place smelled ‘musty’, and had to open the windows. The property is on a septic tank, and I think the smell might have been caused by people using chemicals as cleaning products (though can’t be certain). It would be useful if the owner provided washing up liquid and toilet cleaner that is designed for use with septic tanks. There were a lot of cobwebs on ceilings, light fittings and pictures. As a hoover was provided I hoovered these off as best I could. Better instructions on how to use the heating system would be beneficial. The log burner had t been cleaned for a while, so we chose to do it as it wouldn’t stay alight. The garden could also could do with higher fencing as it’s adjacent to a field with livestock, there’s also a gap in the hedge. There wasn’t a recycling bin for anything but paper/cardboard which we found odd. The main bin hadn’t been emptied either. Can’t comment on the comfort of the bed because we always take an airbed on holiday (as we often find mattresses hard and want to sleep). Overall we enjoyed the bothy, but felt decorative wise it was ‘thrown together’ in same areas (especially the main bedroom). A little bit more attention to aesthetics would really help as this has the potential to be a gem of a property. As a shepherds bothy there was not a single thing connected to sheep (artwork wise).

Lovely cottage in a quiet rural setting. Shops etc within easy reach by car. Generous Welcome pack much appreciated after a long drive and great to have secure private garden and driveway.Only mild criticisms would be a lack of a sharp knife and veg peeler. Also some additional information re: bins would be useful as we like to recycle as much as possible.
