7 friends in our 60’s, 70’s and 80’s stayed at Croxton Lodge and Curlews Nest for a long weekend. It was like having our very own mini stately home for the weekend. The bigger house is a shooting lodge so there was lots of hunting memorabilia adorning the walls, which didn’t bother us in the least. Although large it was extremely cosy as the main room is divided by sofas and chairs into 3 areas. The bedrooms were all a good size with open plan en-suites, which wasn’t a problem for us. Beds were comfortable with good quality bedding. The kitchens in both properties are well equipped and we had arranged for private chef to come and cook for us on the Saturday night and he found all that he needed, equipment wise. There are a lot of stairs and steps in both properties, which wasn’t a problem for any of our party. Not all of the bedrooms had wet room showers but baths with hand held showers in them and the water pressure in all rooms was poor. The surroundings are glorious and sitting in the large covered gazebo by the lake was lovely, especially in the evening. Just a slight mis representation on the Cottages.com website, as it shows a picture of a hot tub in the gazebo by the lake, not a table and chairs, as we had.All seven of us would happily return.

Brilliant accommodation. We travelled as a large group and had everything we needed. The house is full of character and the grounds and setting is outstanding !

Spent a bank holiday weekend with 12 members of my family, 2 children and 2 dogs. Both of the cottages were great, both clean and well maintained. Main lodge could do with a refresh with paint. Kitchen in the Lodge had everything you would need to cater for a large party. The lodge also had a great space for all to be together. The outdoor space, was good, a nice seating area that easily sat 12 people. Then there was the grounds, the lake area was beautiful, the surrounding fields were all accessible for walks and made for a great after dinner activity. Birdwatching was a must with all the activity on the lake.I read the reviews after booking and was worried by the negative comments, the only comment that seemed to have any relevance to our visit was the water pressure for a shower wasn’t great, however there was plenty of hot water for baths, so it wasn’t a big deal. The bedding was lovely, high quality and very clean. The decor in the lodge is very quirky, a lot of stuffed animals and sporting paraphernalia which some people may find a little too much but again it wasn’t a big deal. Overall I was very happy with both the Lodge and Curlews Nest and all the family had a brilliant, relaxing time.
