Set within the historic walled garden of Exton Park in Rutland, Teal is one of six peaceful safari tents surrounded by open countryside, mature trees and the quiet charm of the estate. Hidden within this beautiful private setting, it feels secluded and relaxed, with plenty of space to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. Perfect for slow mornings and evenings around the firepit and days where adventures run wild, with plenty of family-friendly attractions nearby to explore.
Each tent at our Lantern & Larks locations, accommodates six guests across three bedrooms. There is one king size room, one twin room and one bunk bedroom. Inside, there is an open plan living area with a spacious kitchen featuring a double gas hob, a dining table, a comfortable seating area and a wood-burning stove. Each tent also has private facilities with running water, as well as its own outdoor seating area with a firepit and unlimited logs included. Our sites are off-grid, and we provide rechargeable lanterns and hot water bottles to keep you cosy in the evenings - though it’s always worth packing for a little bit of everything when it comes to British weather.
Mornings can begin with a trip to the local bakery nearby, where you can pick up fresh pastries, bread and hot drinks before heading out for the day. From there, you might choose to explore Rutland Water with its walking and cycling routes, watersports and nature trails, or simply stay close to site and enjoy a slower day outdoors.
There is plenty to enjoy back at the site too, from cooking over the firepit, playing games on the grass or simply unwinding outside the tent. You can join in with the relaxed atmosphere of the site and chat with other guests or keep things completely to yourselves and enjoy the privacy of your own space.
We often find children especially love the simplicity of staying here, toast marshmallows by the fire, spot wildlife around the estate and spend long days outside without needing much more.
About Exton Park:
Lantern and Larks has established a glamping site within the 500 hectares of beautiful 18th Century Grade II listed Exton Park. With its sheltered five-acre walled garden which gradually slopes down to an ornamental lake at the southern end, where ospreys have even been known to catch their dinner! Exton Park Rutland really is the perfect glamping spot.
Exton Park is home to the Gainsborough family. The house and grounds are occasionally still used for weddings, and regularly as a location for film and photo shoots. The parkland has existed since the 12th Century, and the gardens witnessed performances by Handel in the 18th Century. The old potting shed now forms the on site honesty shop where essential items can be purchased.
Environmental considerations have been foremost in the planning and stewardship of the estate, creating and maintaining a diverse habitat and haven for all manner of wildlife and despite being landlocked, one of Rutland's most distinguishing features is the large body of water right at its centre.
Rutland Water is one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, making it a truly beautiful spot for some 'glamorous camping' or glamping. It is the Anglian Water's drinking water reservoir and an internationally famous nature reserve that provides a home for over 25,000 waterfowl. It lies less than three miles to the south of the Exton Estate and is ringed by 25 miles of cycle and footpaths.
There is so much to do locally including water sports, fishing, golf and of course the many walks around Rutland Water reservoir.
Additional Information:
This is a off-grid experience with no electricity on site. Light is provided by candles, portable lamps, and solar powered lighting.
A security deposit of £500.00 will be held, only when booking the full site and refunded within 7 days of departure.
All adult bookings must be discussed and agreed before booking.
No stag or hen parties allowed.
Please keep noise to a minimum after 9pm.
Travel cots and high chairs available on request (small additional charge).
Up to four well behaved dogs welcome per tent (small additional charge).

Living area
Comfortable sitting area with corner sofa, coffee table and large wood burning stove (unlimited wood included). Views out over the porch and across the site. Candles and lanterns supplied throughout to light the tent.
Kitchen/dining area
Wooden table with seating for six. Well-equipped kitchen with sink, double gas hob, cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery. Cool box for storing food, with free ice packs available from site shop.
Shower room
Private WC and shower room. All fully plumbed with hot and cold running water. Towels provided.
Bedroom one
Wooden king-size bed (bedding supplied) with two bedside tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe.
Bedroom two
Twin wooden single beds (bedding supplied) and storage.
Bedroom three
Wooden bunk beds (bedding supplied) and storage.
Outside:
Front terrace with outdoor seating and coffee table. Firepit in front of tent.
Parking:
Parking is only available in the designated parking area.
Vehicles can not be driven to the tents.
Barrows are provided to take your luggage from your car to the tent.
