Welcome to Sunnyside, a fabulous Victorian cottage set in an enviable location and only ¼ mile on foot to the beach. Sunnyside offers plenty of room for five people and space to relax. On the ground floor you will find a large entrance hallway which itself leads into the downstairs shower room. To the left you will move into an open plan living/dining room and then into a large, very light kitchen/diner, here you can open the bifold doors and enjoy the views of the garden. Upstairs you will find all three bedrooms, these consisting of two doubles and a single as well as the family bathroom. The house benefits from plenty of natural light.
Mersea Island benefits from some fantastic shops, tea rooms and pubs as well as being famous for it’s seafood and brightly coloured beach huts. Mersea Island is great for anyone who wants a break beside the sea but there is lots to keep you busy too; walking, cycling and sailing to name a few. Sunnyside is an ideal location from which to explore Mersea Island. The quaint high street is a short stroll away and you’re within easy walking distance of some family friendly pubs and restaurants as well as local shops. Cudmore Grove Country Park situated a short distance away at East Mersea and is terrific for those who prefer green open spaces and quieter spots, why not take a picnic? Should you decide to travel, only 20 minutes away and you can find yourself in the historic market town of Colchester or Maldon, both worth a visit.

We had a super, relaxing holiday at Sunnyside in March 2026. The house was clean and welcoming (tea and coffee sachets). The garden was super dog friendly for our cocker spaniel and completely safe. There was no noise from neighbours or traffic which was wonderful, only seagulls, birds and the wind. The beach was about a 10 minute walk away and the shops and cafés were all very friendly and welcoming. Some lovely places to visit on the island as well as further inland and crossing the Strood was never an issue for us, providing you check the tide times. We loved the airy and bright kitchen/family space and would definitely like to visit again in the not too distant future.

A lovely place to stay. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean. Gorgeous big sun filled kitchen/diner/ family room. Helpful owners. A lovely quiet area. Secure back garden . Lots of easy to reach places to eat. A few minutes walk to Mersea fish bar, Titash Indian restaurant and take away. Our second visit to this property. We hope to return.

Good location. Cottage spacious and excellent parking available. Owner responded quickly when we had a problem with the smoke alarm battery.The cottage would benefit from an upgrade to the mattress in the smaller bedroom, and provision of some throws for the lounge area and a selection of board games and books would be a good addition We were disappointed to find that the welcome pack as indicated in the booking details was not provided. However this did not detract from our enjoyment of the holiday. We would recommend crabbing by the harbour and the local seafood at dawn venue.
